View Full Version : Picked up my first project/ Suggestions please!

Remington 700 SPS Tactical. Got a killer deal on it at the show yesterday from SAW. Picked up a Nikon 4-16x40 with bdc scope to top it off for now. The scope will later on go on something else, but will do for now.

So other than optics, what does the armory suggest as a first mod? :D

A fully bedded stock. McMillan/HS Precision if you can afford it, Bell & Carlson Medalist Tactical/Varmint if you're on a budget.

What did you give for yours? new stock and new trigger maybe a bipod as well.

It was 600 out the door. The cheapest i could find online was between 8 - 1k.


Took it to quail creek today to sight in the scope. It is one sweet shooting rifle. Now if i could find a range thats longer than 100 yards.

your setup looks familiar. Mine now sports a 700p take off and nikon monarch but you def made a great purchase for a good price

get a bipod and a sling,they are heavy.i have .5" groups at 200 yards with factory 147gr. fmj.

im fixing to swap stocks and try some 168 gr. reloads.evryone says that putting a bi-pod on will make your stock hit the barrell but mine doesnt have that problem with the hogue.good luck its a nice gun.6x18x50 works great!

I picked up a 700 SPS Tactical in .308 off Gun Brocker last week to go with the 700 PSS in .223 that I already had. Not sure if I am gonna like the Hogue stock.

$600? Man now I'm really kicking my self because I saw a Rem 700 SPS .308 for $380 about two months ago and passed it up.

Bi pod will be today. Going to hit up the academy and cabelas to try and find a roto tilt for it. I was reading the same thing about the stock touching the barrel. They were saying that just laying it on a sand bag would do the same, but i was able to slide a dollar bill under it, so remington may have addressed the issue.

I have been shopping for awhile, holding off thinking prices would drop again. I would find links for the gun in the 400 dollar area, to be disappointed once i got to the site. Most were just the sps vs. the sps tactical. The first gun i found was on the way to the restroom once i got there and they wanted 599 for a sps with the regular 24" barrel. So $380 for a sps tactical would have been a steal for sure.

I have a Remington 700 in 6mm that is a parts gun, you can have it if you're buying a 6mm.

Take it down to Ennis and have Shilen Rifles do a trigger job on it.

Id be down sometime!, I just dont get out that way much usually...
I probably go out there once every month or two, really just to shoot ARs with some friends....
