I don't know what all the reasons are that people choose to not be a member of a group that is working to preserve your rights but...if your complaint is that the NRA wears you out with fund raising efforts, you can contact them and tell them to stop sending so much stuff. I did and I only get a few items per year. I like how the GOA operates but I don't know which group is more effective. The GOA has lots of emails and keeps people aware of legislation daily or every few days. BTW, KERA is worse than the NRA IMO. If you give to KERA, you'd better do it annonomously(sp) or get ready to be hounded like crazy. At least with the NRA, you can choose from 5 or 6 magazines for your $25-35. Just know that the anti's are fighting against your rights daily. If you don't believe me, sign up for some anti email and you'll see what is going on. I realize that all the groups listed above (including the anti's) are all about fund raising.

NRA member here - all you guys that so you don't want to be, you better recognize the is the sole affiliate with the legal power to protect your rights - just remember they use your fees to pay their attorneys, among other things.

Obviously that isn't going to help the general public - I understand the whole "don't want to add to the corruption" mentality, but when it comes down to brass tax, they are the only real gun advocates that have a record of accomplishing things on a regular basis. Probably one of the most effective lobby groups there is in washington, certainly one of the most feared. I don't give a shit about their magazine, or the shit they send me, all I care is I help that pool of money to goes to their legal cases.
