The city of Dallas, in a crime-fighting initiative, is buying back guns from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Each weapon turned in will fetch a $50 Kroger grocery gift card.

I wonder if I could buy some guns before they try and turn them in for $50 :D

I have a Raven .25 ACP, but something's fucked up on it and the slide won't go all the way back. This would be perfect except they said it has to be operational. :(

They're just going to turn the guns over to the police - that way they have guns to plant on suspects/bodies.

I personally believe that the Guns for PC's program is responsible for the sheer amount of stupidity on this site.
Im with Jose...we should stand outside of their parking lot paying $50 CASH for guns

I've got the same friggin gun (actually my dad does) and I think the firing pin is broken on it. And how can they tell if it's operational or not? :D
Hell I'd probably trade that gun for $50 worth of groceries...

go up there with a wad of $50 bills.... you might find some good stuff... I wonder how fast they would chase us off...

If you get chased off, then stand on public property nearby with a fluorescent poster-board announcing you will buy guns and beat the DPD prices.
Of course you have the small print saying that they must be guns you are interested in.

OK, I'm seriously thinking about unloading the Raven and a .22 single shot bolt action that my dad has. Neither of them work but how the hell are they going to know. I wouldn't consider myself a "sellout" since I'd actually be sticking it "the man" and making more money than either of the guns are worth. Thoughts?

Just a thought it may be 50 for pistols and 25 for long guns though

A POS one with rust on the barrel. I'll see if I can get a model and manufacturer.

Regardless, it's sitting at the house not being used. Both are broken and not worth fixing IMO.

So I'm just wondering what's the risk of buying a gun that's either stolen or will be reported stolen after I buy it. And if you make out a bill of sale to CYA, exchange names and/or license numbers, what's the chance you take that the person you bought it from plans on visiting you at a later date to take it back?

If they're selling them for a $50 Kroger card, I dont think they'll want your name... I dont even think most of these people know what the hell they have... if they did, they would have already sold it...
My opinion, there will be a lot of junk but I bet there will be a few that are worth buying... I also bet there will be guns you could buy for $50 and part them out for a profit...
Have any of our LEOs participated in anything like this? Will they run off the gun buying public?

One person even turned in a pretty sophisticated assault weapon.:("We weren't using it. Too much crime out here anyway," said donor Roy Collier.Fucking moron. If he's not using it, it certainly isn't contributing to crime, is it?

Guns for butter: The aftermath of the Dallas firearm buyback
12:52 PM Mon, Mar 02, 2009
Dallasites surrendered 147 firearms this weekend to city officials during a gun buyback program on the grounds of Reunion Arena.
(They could have always used the facility for target practice, but that's beside the point.)
Each gun was worth a $50 Kroger gift card. Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway said of the event: "This shows that people will be behind a positive activity. Some of those guns are ones our officers are up against."
But writer and gun advocate Trey Garrison, who also attended with the goal of purchasing for $65 any weapon he deemed worthy of being saved from a future life as a soup can, has this to say about the event.
Garrison left empty handed, but is kicking himself for not being quick enough to the draw on a vintage Colt .45 1911.
"I would have paid a helluva lot more than $65 for the one unfired Colt 1911," Garrison writes us. "That thing was a piece of history."

Someone should just host their own event like this, pay $50 cash towards firearms. Have some restrictions though, and tell people the used guns will be recycled into pencils/pens for a low income school. LOL
