1st rule of dealing with military recruiters. They LIE.

If you are still underage, your parents can pull consent.

Get your parents to call a lawyer and have him review it. There is a very good chance that your recruiter is full of shit.

What job did you sign up for?

Anyway, welcome to being an adult. You made a commitment to your country, which by the way is one of the greatest things you can ever do - now it's time to man up and meet that commitment.

Don't think you'll just get out by being discharged either. You CAN, but likely it'll be dishonorable if you're screwing up and it won't look good.

At the end of the day, the military is what YOU make of it. Do your best, meet your commitment, be proud and enjoy the benefits. Most of all pay attention to your training as it sounds retarded now but it will help keep you alive.

Take care,

You'll go through life always second guessing yourself... Go ahead and man up, do your time and you'll never regret it.... You'll never doubt yourself again, you'll see what being a man is all about, so don't puss out....
Talk to your recruiter and tell him you'd like to get a guaranteed MOS, maybe airwing or motor T, but honestly with your spelling, I'd wonder how you passed 3rd grade, much less graduate high school.

i think you can back out all the way up until you swear in at boot camp or maybe it's meps. i would just call a lawyer. if you really wanna be in the military pick one of the branches that aren't going to stick you in the desert with people trying to blow you up.

If you haven't sworn in then your fine. Just don't go. If you don't want to do it, don't. Until you swear in your a free man. This is just a case of a recruiter not wanting to lose one towards his quota. Oh by the way your a pussy :boobies:

Just don't marry the first pice of ass that gives it too you..........see it done many times. Don't marry the first foreign girlfriend you have.........yea i made that mistake :( and above all, get a fucking career field you can use on the outside..... if not, then go to school while your in.

If he's already got a ship date, that means he signed. If he signed, that means he already swore in (during his first trip to MEPS, where he signed).

And they care more about the signature than the swearing in, legally atleast. A lot of misinformation up in hurr.

You have the same ship date as my son... There are several ways to get out... tell him you're queer, piss on his desk, call your congressman, call your senator, go to boot camp and piss all over yourself, they'll kick your ass for a while but if you keep doing it, eventually they'll kick you out... you could always shoot your DI... of course that might land you in jail...

By the way it is called the Coast Guard, make sure you tell them you backed out of the Marine Corp to join the Coast Guard, they'll welcome you with open arms...

Tim,

Let me put it this way, when I was 18 I attempted to join the military, I was unable to due to several sports related injuries that I was unable to fake my way through.

14 years later it still bothers me that I was unable to serve. It is the one thing, that if I could, I would change. For my own reasons, I think I'll still get a chance to see combat time, but it is an honest void in my life. You made the commitment, now stick by it. The best way to survive is to not die, so don't worry about that. Take the experience, enjoy it, grow from it. Your generation has a severe lack of honor, duty and country, establish it in yourself.

And don't be a pussy.

first off yes you can back out they dont "own" you until you get on the bus to leave meps you can still back out. i know from experience because i was getting cold feet near my ship date, but i went had a great time. youll stop being friends with over 3/4 of your friends after high school anyways, plus you'll make new friends that would take a fucking bullet for you.

so after being nice im going to say quit being a fucking puss get away from your momma for a while dont worry about getting hurt, chicks dig scars and military members. if you dont want to die for your country then move to canada but get the hell out of my land of the free if you dont want to fight for it.

hell i volunteered to go to afgan last week. i dont know if im getting picked up to go but im going to keep volunteering to go until they tell me to stop or send me its their choice.

I'm pretty sure he can, but I'm not sure how to go about it. After a little research, this website says that you simply don't show up to MEPS to ship to basic. You can also write a letter requesting separation that has to be honored. The website doesn't look the most professional, but it's a start.

They made a big show of it and had the Military police come pick him up for "the brig". The day of graduation they told us that he was on a plane that night, and his record of military was shreaded. Like he was never there. SO dont beleive your recruiter, beleive me, he is bullshitting you. That all being said, keep your punk ass away from my Marine Corps.. Best answer yet. The Coast Guard recruiter knows the paperwork. If you really don't want to be a Marine then they sure as hell don't want or need you.

As for the Merchant Marine, they get shot at as well. My grandpa was killed before we ever entered WW2 by a U-boat in the Gulf.

I'll agree with the having someone who would take a bullet for you. Every member here who has been in uniform, no matter the branch, I'll back 100% and have a pretty good idea they'll do it for me too.

You signed, honor your commitment, but if you're going to cry about it, don't go. You'll get someone killed who is trying to protect your candy ass. I was scared as hell when i joined in August of 01 and then it became terrified in September, but I signed up as Infantry and I toed the line and earned my blue cord. Being scared is one thing. Everyone gets scared, if you're not, you're psychotic. The difference is, do you let that fear make your decision or do you take command of it?

After I got shot in the head, they had to discharge me to keep me from going back. I was scared to be in Iraq, but I'll be damned if I was goign to abandon my guys. Do the right thing. Whatever that is to you.

It's a tragedy yes, but you might want to do a little research on the stats before you come in here with your faggot ass bullshit.

As far as the 40k job and gf part, have fun with that. I'd try and warn ya since you're a kid that she probably won't be there in 3 years and the job can be hit or miss with the economy right now. Or how deep down you'll probably feel like a coward from now on whenever you look upon a service member. But that being said, with the level of cowardice you've shown in this thread alone not only would I not want you in any of the armed services I'll be laughing when in a few years this thread has been forgotten and your still nothing but a whiney vagina, who's girl will end up deepthroating a soldier or marine behind a bar one of these days.

There are a lot of programs for vets such as the Salute to America's heros who stepped up and put a new roof on my house and bought me a bed so I could sleep in one when I bought my house. There's also VA home loans with low rates and no closing costs, the GI Bill, VA health care if you're wounded and the like. But you know what? Go on with what you're doing. Opt out of it.

For your heads up, I average quite a bit more than 40k a year on disability after I got shot in iraq. If you're smart, even injured, you can be okay. But I think you're just someone who realized that you wouldn't fit in the boots and can't own up to something you thought would bring you popularity. I bet you told all your friends and family and bragged about being a Marine didn't you? We all did it. I was so happy to be accepted for Ranger school. Didn't finish it due to broken ankle but I tried it.

Your girl may or may not be around next week, much less in a couple years. Never make plans based on a chick. Your job can be outsourced or rendered useless leaving you out of a job next month. If you do the military, you're guaranteed a job, paycheck, health care and food on the plate. If you don't want to hit the sandbox..... go back to planning on changing diapers because you're going to knock your girl up and wind up on welfare because jobs are hard to find and i doubt you have the education to make yourself truly marketable.

You're so quick to get pissed that military answered you. I'm guessing you wanted some feel good "It's what you think is best at the moment" answers? Sorry, you posted a military question, how do I get out of something I started. We all fought for your ability to decide if you wanted to go through with it or not, whether you wanted to grow up or stay a pussy.

Yes, I'm a prick. I earned my right. have you?

The Marines, or any branch of the military for that matter, do not need your keyboard queer ass in their ranks. Back out puss, sit back, and let all those men (and women) who honored their commitments show your candy ass how it's done.

Take care,

This is the problem we have in America today (and numerous other ones), people like the OP. Coward pieces of shit that can’t /will not man up to the decisions they have made consciously.

Instead of trying to get out of the decision you made and blame your Recruiter, man up and do it pussy!

I am no internet thug or shit talker, coming from active duty and have served overseas three tours I have no respect for people like yourself.

Matter of fact it makes me cry that I risk my life for people like yourself, but hey that is what I do as a soldier.

what kind of jobs pay 40K right out of high school? Not doubting, just curious.

I didn't serve in the military so I don't want to come down as hard on this kid. However, I do think you're letting things that are unlikely to last a year dictate a lifetime of benefit from serving in the military. You really only have two things in life - your word and your name. If one ain't worth a shit neither is the other one. If you don't go, I hope it's the last time you don't live up to your word. More than likely it only serves to make it easier when you want to break another commitment

Being a Marine i can tell you this it is the greatest feeling fighting for your country and saving the life of a fellow soldier. You learn to work as a team and defend your country what is better than that. It was very hard whenever i got out on a medical, but you know what i have been with the same girl for the past 8 years, we met the last week of my senior year she stayed with me through all of it. I can't call you a pussy because their are a lot of people who get cold feet knowing they could die, that is the part you have to dig down deep into your heart and ask yourself if you could take a bullet for your country. That was the easiest part of it for me hell yes and if i was able to go back in i would in a heart beat. Just think about there is no better feeling than being in the armed forces whatever branch it is.

Uh oh! Some one's mommy told him that with being a high school grad he could use the 'F word' liberally, and much like a kid that has never had candy and is now given the chance to enjoy a tasty treat he's taking full advantage!

Go back and read my post, I wasn't in the military.

A 40k job can be found anywhere, but based on what my friends that have served have said, you can't buy those experiences.

ok, so obviously i shouldnt have went to the internet for advice. as for my spelling its the fucking internet im not writing a damn resume. anyways, i got offered a job making $40,000 a year right out of highschool, and my gf just got an apartment wanting me to move in with her, and ive just been thinking about all this stuff..do i really want to wait 4 years before i can start my life? do i really want to rot away in the desert? do i want to come back a different person? look at the homless vets. how many of them are airforce, coast guard, or navy?... none....that shit gets you thinking.

Dude. Joining the military JUMPSTARTS your life. I left for basic at 18 and never looked back after five and a half years. I've deployed 4 times and it's not "rotting away" in the desert. ALL of my best military memories are from deployments. How many people do you know that have chased a camel down the beach in Kenya? The homeless Vets are homeless for reasons other than because they were in the military. Get a fucking clue dude. Seriously. Honestly, you couldn't even hack it in the Air Force, and there are some SERIOUSLY retarded people in the Air Force. Pull your balls out of your body and be a goddamn man!

Maybe you should have talked to people BEFORE signing your life away. And, hate to break it to you, but a 3.3 GPA in highschool isn't shit, and neither is a 62 on the ASVAB.

This kid just sounds like a vagina to me. There are a couple of things he needed to realize before he signed the line.

A) We are at war. The Marines do war.

B) Recruiters will say whatever they need to say, regardless of the Branch, to meet their quota.

C) He's a whiney vaginey. The Department of Defense doesn't want him; maybe Kinko's does.

Probably should not have posted that you're not very good at being a mature 17 y/o.

You're right. The opinions that you receive are from people who have been there and done that. I can CLEARLY see you're listening to your coward friends as opposed to people who really know how the military works OR you're listening to people who were not cut out (read pussies or otherwise fucked up and got worked over pretty hard for it) for the military. It is what you make it. I only have a military background and I promise you it paid off as well as college would've for me.

You seem afraid of real hard work. Studying is not what I'm talking about, so it sounds like you better run for Canada and be a scared person the rest of your life.

I can respect people who just don't want to enlist for whatever reason. I wish people did, but if they do not - I can basically understand. I can't stand someone who makes a commitment and tries to bitch out.

I wish ya luck in the future and I also think you should check into things like OCS and being a warrant officer. As obviously you think you're too smart for military life. haha Dumb ass.

Oh and I try to always behave online as I would in real life. I'd happily say all this shit to your face. In fact that might benefit you hearing other sides to the military haters/negatie. Why? I recently had the joy of being at a family member's home that seems to simply try to talk everyone out of enlisting. Clueless fucks are talking about shit that they have no what they are talking about. 5% fact in their blabber and 95% bullshit.

Also, consider that just because you enlist for 3-6 years does not mean you can't do college. Granted with current military life it'll be difficult to both college and your commitment. However, do your time...take your G.I. bill....been there-done that shirts and go to college. You'll be glad you did.

Take care,

I'm guessing you are talking about your GT score on the ASVAB as the highest over all score given is a 99.

And to OP just tell your recruiter you aren't going. Thats all you have to do. I went through a similar experience about 9 years ago. I had signed up to join the Navy and the weekend before I was suppose to ship out I went to visit some friends at college and decided that I would rather go to school than join the Navy and do something that I really wasn't going to enjoy.

The only oath you have taken was to swear into the DEP. They can't and won't make you go to Boot Camp. You will have to deal with some shit and some guilt trips, but you don't have to go.

Funny thing is two years later after I finished school I joined the Marines and have loved every minute of it since. He'll I'm headed to Afgan, in a couple months and am more excited about that than anything else I've done for the past 7 years.

To the thread starter: avoid the military like the plague. Seriously. You are far too "sensitive" to serve. You'll only end up getting yourself or someone else killed. Run fast and run far from the military. Seriously.

You're not going to get any lovey-dovey answers from this website. There are a lot of ex-military on here. So if you came here for sympathy and someone to rub your nuts and tell you it'll be ok, you're in the wrong place.

I wasn't that excited about shipping out either. But as time goes on, you get used to it, get into your groove and everything works out. Those are years I'd never trade. The military helped to shape my civilian life once I separated. Even now when I interview for new positions, my military background helps me get the job. So, if you can't see the long-term benefits of military service, just don't go. Fuck off and go work at McDonald's dude.
