Sounds like he can't even run the 40 for the combines...hmmm...They're talking surgery, then a 10-12 week recovery time. Not much of an impression to the pro scouts. He'd better get healthy, or get left behind.

this is one of those cases where he left his impression on the scouts the last 2 years. Look at McGahee, he was drafted fresh off a knee surgery. With some guys, it just doesn't matter, the upside is way too much.

Trust me, Crabtree will be taken by the 7th pick.....I really think he is going 4th and will get to see him play when the Seahawks play the Texans in Houston.
<-----Kinda wishing that the Texans would get him but we really don't need help at reciever

this COULD cost him money, but i doubt it. It's a foot, not a tear everything in your knee possibly injury.

I'll make a note...7th overall. We of the Big 12 know all about his abilities, and I'm sure he'll go high. I also know the DMN didn't think it was helping his cause, either.

I just read the DMN article which was better the the Chron article. I have no clue what he is thinking. The foot was injured a year ago and he is just now doing something about it. He has been going to the Michael Johnson Center to work on his speed and the whole time he has had an injury:confused2:

I just heard this morning that they also measured his height at 6'1" at the combine...2" shorter than Tech had him listed at.

Well, kinda. I know waaaay back in high school ball, they would list us bigger (mainly weight) to try to intimidate other teams. I was listed at 195, and I played at 180 (with a big rock in my pocket!). I thought college-level stats would be fairly close. I'm thinking, "what next? a 5.0 40?"

He will be fine. He may lose a few spots in the draft.

LOL at everyone. He's had the slight stress fracture for like 2 years. It may get worse, or it may stay as it is forever. He will run the 40 at his workout in March (when his ankle is fully healed) and then have the foot surgery. Recovery time is 6-8 weeks. He'll still be a top 5 pick and will be a monster in the NFL. I love how everyone blows it out of proportion, and I'm not even a Tech fan.

Thought I'd bring this to the top...Crabtree is not going to run the 40 at all. He's going on for surgery this week. I saw a small blurb on top 10 Big 12 picks in the DMN, and some folks are a little nervous about his injury and surgery.

I saw where someone had im in the top 5 most impressive people at the combine. Might have been a write for the DMN though.

Crabtree himself said he was told by scouts that he would be a top 10 draft pick without running the 40 at the combine, so I guess he felt like it wasn't necessary.

sounds like he had two choices. 1. get the surgery now and be about ready for the start of the season or 2. run the 40 and take your chances not being well his rookie year.
Smart decission if you ask me.

With the 15th Pick....The Houston Texans select Micheal Crabtree from Texas Tech University.
We already have arguably the best WR Andre Johnson so we really don't need the help.
The Texans really need Michael Orr....But I don't think he is going to go that low.

Crabtree has successful surgery on foot
http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss274/IDAjeffrey13/untitled-1.jpg
Former Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree underwent successful surgery on the slight stress fracture in his left foot Wednesday.
Crabtree was still recovering Wednesday afternoon, according to a marketing representative, and was expected to be released Thursday.
Renowned orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Robert Anderson performed the surgery at the Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. Crabtree was expected to have a pin inserted in his foot, which would sideline him for 10 weeks.
“Michael’s surgery today was successful, and I expect a very routine recovery and a full return to football this season,” Anderson said in a statement.
Crabtree’s injury — which he announced in a statement was a pre-existing injury — initially was discovered during medical testing at the NFL Scouting Combine. After initially saying that he would work out at the Texas Tech Pro Day on March 26, Crabtree reconsidered and opted for surgery.
NFL senior analyst Pat Kirwan has Crabtree, widely regarded as a top-10 pick prior to the combine, going to the Cincinnati Bengals with the sixth overall pick in his latest mock draft.

with SEA signing Houshmenjadadadfadfafdsaflkja;lfdkjdsaf, I wonder if that will effect where he gets drafted. Last mock draft I saw had him going to SEA. Now that STL cut Holt and KC has a good QB, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to either of those guys att 2 or 3 (which would make him the 2nd highest draft pick out of Texas Tech). If not there, he could go to Oakland.....YEA, kill a career why don't you.
He won't fall past 7.

He needed the surgery. Will have to go to a team and prove himself like everybody else, no matter what round he goes in.

There have been a lot of Players that get picked early in the draft and just don't pan out. I'm not saying that this will happen to him. I know Him and His family personally. When He gets healthy enough to play he will prove a point to those teams that could have picked him.

Please have TO sign with the Raiders so they don't draft Crabtree.

There were a lot of bad predictions in this thread. I guess a 40 time still makes a difference at the "skill" positions, huh? Hell, the Niner's still don't know if he can even run! His agent suggested he not run for anyone until he was picked in the draft.

it wasn't necessarily his 40 time, there were some questions about his character that came to light recently. Too bad he doesn't have QB to get him the ball though.

That is all they have talked about with him the past 2 days. How he has a prima donna attitude ect. I think going 10th to the 49ers is a lot better than 7th to the Raiders tho.

2) WR Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech (Soph.-3)
Crabtree may not have a laundry list of arrests, but his ego is abnormally large to the point where he repeatedly demeaned training staff, his work ethic has been described as “marginal at best,” and his intelligence and ability to handle success remain major question marks. One thorough evaluator compared Crabtree’s mental makeup to that of former LSU and Buccaneers 2004 15th overall pick Michael Clayton, who made a big splash in the NFL as a rookie before going on to average 31 catches, 378 yards and a half-TD catch each of the past four years as he lost focus, bought into the hype and stopped working at his craft the way young receivers must do to be great. Crabtree's competitiveness noticeably stands out on tape, and he did play through injury last season. However, when the Red Raiders were getting whipped by better competition (Oklahoma and Mississippi) during the final two games of the season, Crabtree did not finish either game. After he gets a taste of success in the pros, evaluators are not confident he will be able to handle the trappings of the pro game.
very disappointing to hear, I really liked the guy as a player

All someones opinion. I can imagine that it is hard not to be a little big headed when you are the best WR in the draft. I think that if there is a problem Singletary will put a stop to it quickly or Crabtree will have to find somewhere else to play.

Shaun Hill is 7-3 as a starter with over 2000 yards passing. The problem last season was Martz giving his boy from Detroit (JT Sullivan) the job over him. Then again we may have the same problem this season with Alex Smith getting yet another shot.

1) Learn how to spell. There is no "e" at the end.
2) See post #35 where Studly pointed out information not available when I said top 5 (like practically every expert).
3) Go see where I also said Sanchez would be picked high and make Petey look like an idiot. Yeah, that was spot on.
San Fran got a steal in Crabtree where they picked him if Singletary can control this apparent ego and bad work ethic. Otherwise we may have the next TO.
