They now have to pay your Cobra insurance at 65%. I had dinner with a friend last night and they were saying because of his bullshit they have to go back through previous employees back to Sept and see if anyone qualifies. Then they have to pay 65% of their insurance for I think they said 6 months. They did ok last year, but about 2 million less then what they did the year before, and are doing less this year. They have had to cut hours, and depending on the new tax rate may have to cut a few employees.
THANKS OBAMA!!!!

I heard about this. The EMPLOYER has to pay the 65%? Yeah, that'll work.
I see a lot more companies not offering company paid health insurance now since there is the chance of them having to pay for cobra after they fire someone. Many small companies are going to say "screw it", or will make the employees buy their own insurance. I see the law of unintended consequences will kick in on this deal.

What if insurance companies lowered their ridiculous premiums and stopped "pretending" to provide coverage. Make the bad guy accountable for once.

Whats going to end up happening is that employers are going to stop offering company insurance. Families will be left with trying to obtain major medical insurance and paying for std doctors vists out of pocket.

BINGO! It's already started. They pay big bucks (perceived) until the benefits stop. It would cost us $600 a month MORE if my wife took the pay instead of the perks.

It has already started. There is a thing called a HSA (health savings account) that you as an individual can carry. It has a catastrophic health insurance policy attached, but you use the money in the account to pay day-to-day health expenses up to a limit. After that the insurance kicks in. And the money rolls from year to year, unlike other health savings account plans. The money is put in pre-tax, so you get a ~30% discount on medical procedures and prescriptions. And the plan is a lot cheaper than traditional health insurance with copays.
Actually, I see shifting the expense to the individual as a good thing, It would damn sure cut down on people going to the ER for a cough, and it would cut down on people having expensive medical procedures, or would send them offshore in search of cheaper alternatives. Maybe health costs would eventually come down since people cannot afford $100,000 medical procedures.
