Bullet, my poor misled brother, you've once again proven nothing. What did I say that was false? The DOW was right at 13k in May of '08, when your messiah took a decisive lead in the campaign. Read it and weep...the guys that REALLY know what's up, have no confidence in him or his administration. You think you're broke now? LOL! You and your ilk will rue the day you voted that stinking turd into office. Oh...and have a nice weekend!

The FACTS remain the worst economic period in US history happened under a republican president and the longest period of economic expansion happened under a democrat. Is it obama's fault that bush loosened lending standards and that the republican party loosened regulations on investment banks that led to a huge debt crisis ? As has always been a case, it takes a democrat to come in an clean up a republican bullshit mess that they leave behind. When the messiah leaves office the dow will be higher than when he came in. How many republican presidents can say the same ?

That "economic expansion" came at quite a price, now didn't it? Namely, 9/11. Instead of taking care of foreign business, Big Billy was getting skull from a skank, and letting the "First Skank" make a run at socializing our medicine ( a dismal failure).
Once again, I stated factual numbers. As Obama was pulling away from Hillary in the race, the DOW was at 13K. The real money guys of this country don't care about "donkeys" and "elephants" like they do "bulls and bears". They saw this coming (and still do). The market has fallen an additional 20% since Barry was sworn in, right? Dubya is gone. It's time for all you socialists' to "belly up to the bar", and take a little responsibility. You can run, but you can't hide.
You must really fear Limbaugh, Hannity, and Mark Levine. Your constant reference to "Rush" means you probably cower at the mention of his name, as most Libs should. Are you a "welfare mama"? You must live at the public trough, or you wouldn't fear what is said on the open airwaves. Are you hoping for a new "Fairness Doctrine"?

Before bush passed the first tax cut (june 01), which was one of the biggest tax cuts ever, because of the tech bubble poping the DOW was around 10,000. The market rose a bit, then 9-11 knocked it all the way down to 7,591. SO you can't say that the bush tax cut cut didn't work, because of outside interference. In May of 03 he passed another tax cut the DOW gain 2,000 point in rest of 2003 alone.
SO FAR Obama's, Pelosi's, Democrats, Stimulus plan has not reacted well to the market. Why do you think that is? Why did Bush's plan work, and the current one hasn't?

Please check YOUR facts, as it was and has always been the democratic party, starting with Carter in the 70's and moving to slick Willy in the 90's that pressured for looser lending standards. Those same loose lending standards that caused the mortgage mess in the first place. W actually tried to fix it a few years ago, but couldn't get it through congress due to lack of democratic support.
Lets also not forget that the DOW also hit its highest point during the bush administration, and we're not talking about the beginning of his 8 year administration, we're talking about the end. The end. after 8 years of failed foreign policy from Slick Willy caused Bin Laden to have enough balls to pull off the WTC, and the subsequent stock market fall, which W brought us through.

So the 6000 points the market lost during Bush's watch are Obama's fault now?
The market is forward looking. Getting the dems voted into congress with bush having two years to go had a downward effect; the same effect that took hold of the market when it figured out who was going to win the election. IMO that's why the market took a dive during the last part of bush's presidency, and why it continues to dive.
If barry doesn't shut the hell up and he continues to spew doom and gloom the market will continue to slide. If barry DOES shut up and allows the economy to work then maybe we'll see the market begin to return. I predict that some of his advisers will tell him this sooner or later.
Now, i'm not saying that bush was a saint; he was far from it. He moved away from conservative principals early in his presidency. He did a lot of bad things, but by God he did some good ones also. Namely keeping the country from suffering another attack after 9/11.

You are exactly right, it isn't just Hussein Obama's fault, the democratic majority controlled Senate and democratic dominated House are right in step with King Welfare and are equally to blame.
But you do have to admit it is hard to point a finger at anyone else, due to the fact that every time Obama opens his mouth to speak to the populace, the Dow drops that day another 75 points.

My response to this is the spending is not bad at all when compared as a percent of the gdp.

That's right, we should give money to people to make a statue of jesus out of dookie just because the national debt isn't all that high in comparison to GDP.
I saw an ad in the Dallas Morning News this morning "Need three people to help me sculpt statue of Jesus from dookie".
I figure the economy will be turned around by late April at the latest.

You are seeing a lot of capital leaving the market. Some of it due to margin calls, IE people who thought we had hit the bottom and loaded up on margin.

LOL You're quick to blame Obama for a drop while someone else gets credit for an increase??? Pick a side and stick with it. You can't have it both ways. If you want to blame Obama for something that is simply a continuation of the Bush administration, then give him credit when it gains.
Honestly, I think all of you are crying "wolf." If you're expecting the Dow to get back over 10K in one or two days, well, you're nuts. It's going to take some time. Investors are being careful now because there simply isn't a lot of smart places to put money right now. While I disagree with a lot of the bailout policy, at least it's something. As an American, I feel it's my job to support the decision and our elected leaders -- just like I did when Bush was president. Get over yourself stop being so pessimistic.

The market has been dropping last week and this week due to Obama talking 'gloom and doom', then talking of nationalizing our banking industry. That is 100% his fault. The market picked up because the head of the Federal Reserve said 'everything will be better soon.' Obama didn't have jack shit to do with that.

Get a clue, the market has been falling the past few weeks because investors as a whole are nervous about citibank and boa going bankrupt. These are valid concerns given that citibank has already been given billions in bailout and is still on shaky ground. All the fed did is reinforce the fact that the stimulus will help with growth which sparked a short covering rally. At least obama is honest to the american people about the current problems and does not try to sugar coat bull shit them like bush did.

the only thing that i agree with is the healthcare issue. healthcare is getting ridiculously expensive and insurance companies do their best to keep from paying for things, when you pay an arm and a leg for the coverage in the first place. i wouldn't mind some increased taxes to cover the additional cost of healthcare, if it means that everyone gets good medical coverage and nobody has to worry about going bankrupt from medical expenses.

At what point would you like Barry to have some of the responsibility of the DOW being in the shitter? He started affecting it in May of last year, but which date would you pick? Inauguration perhaps? The truth is, he can't pull it off. He hasn't even touched his foreign policy yet (if he ever does!). The reason Barry keeps "campaigning" is because if he actually sits down in the POTUS chair he will then actually have to do something....and it would PROVE he's an idiot.
Sean is right, if Barry and the media would just STFU and let the US economy do it's thing, it will recover on it's own. Devaluing the dollar and opening the door for massive inflation doesn't do shit for us on the world market and will only destroy our buying power to get cheap shit from overseas as the dollar becomes worthless.

No way, I thought he was an honest republican. No way there was any collusion going on when he led the way for a bill that deregulated derivatives while his wife sat on the board of a company that traded them drawing a salary and stock options.
My favorite quote from him
“Some people look at subprime lending and see evil. I look at subprime lending and I see the American dream in action. My mother lived it as a result of a finance company making a mortgage loan that a bank would not make.”

I hope you are not referring to Iraq having WMD as the lie, because if that is it, then every free country in the world lied, almost every American politician from both sides lied, and Bush is a magician for having them lie before he takes office so he can invade the country.
Say Bush ignored some signs that they didn't have WMD's, say he wasn't careful enough to scruitinize the intel on the WMD's, say he should have finished Afghanistan first, say he was wrong about the intel, say alot of things that may be true, but to say he lied about going into Iraq is stupid.
You may be an idiot for worshipping RP, you may be an idiot for thinking Bush lied, but whatever the reason, make no mistake, you are an idiot.
You do realize that your deep hatred for Bush makes you as bad as the liberals who worship the Messiah, right? Imagine there are people in a room, and they ask all the people who hate Bush and think he lied to go to one side of the room, you will be standing on the side with all the miscreant idiot hate filled liberals, right?

Bullet, I'm pretty impressed with the accuracy of your predictions. I was hoping you could answer some questions I've had lately.
What do you think is the appropriate market risk premium to use right now when calculating the discount rate? Why does the calculation of market risk premium seem counterintuitive?
Which beta do you think you should use? A 2 year, 5 year, 10 year vs the Dow, S&P, Russell?
How exactly can lower covariances help me reach a higher point of efficiency?
If you deposited $200k in your investment account today, deposited $10k at t1, withdrew $20k at t2, and the returns for a 4 year period were 20%, -10%, 10%, and 15%, what was my geometric rate of return? What was my dollar weighted rate of return?
What is this VIX that everyone is talking about? Where do they get the numbers to figure the VIX?
Why is the Dow price weighted? What problems result from using a price weighted index?
Thanks!

No one is acting anything here. Nate challenged me and said to prove him wrong and I did. I actually feel bad now for doing it. None of the investment questions you asked are relative to a trader who trades intraday. My trade this morning came from 1000's of hours of chart reading and watching the markets trade. What you learned in those books does not work in the real world. Fibs ? lol I challenge you with all that book knowledge to find how 7180 fits in there. I never found much use in them as a whole. Just good old price action and knowing how to read it is all you need for trading intraday. Everyone's talking trash this thread but so far the only one who put it up for you is me. So are you going to show us that investment knowledge and post a dow trade that matches the one given this morning ? Or if you prefer, just post 1 winning trade that net's a $700 profit per contract that is traded with a $500 margin or any other instrument, gold, oil, s&p, nasdaq, that return's that % wise in 3 hours with less than $150 drawdown.

Do you hunt deer with an ak47 or tec9 ? And don't bitch about the brady bill, a waiting period and background check is a good thing these days. I'll still carry no matter what the laws are changed to.

EVERYTHING in life is 50/50. It either happens, or it doesn't. If I was wrong and it went the other way, then I missed it. But I figured with Barry being Captain Negative and Raum "Exploit the crisis" Emanuel working hand in hand that the odds were on my side.
Smartest thing I did was to get out.

I have all my 401k in the money market, but I am waiting for the fire sale. I think about 6000 on the DOW would be a good place to start dollar cost averaging in.

Hey, Bullet? Am I still looking like a dumbass? It's Monday, I "suggested" 6500 this week. We're at 6830 (down 200+) and I've got another 4 days! Your boy Obama is top-notch! 2000 point drop since he took office! Market is 50% of what it was in May when the financials figured he might be POTUS...Are you happy?:censored:

LOL at you still blaming Obama for 100% of the condition the economy is in. Let's look at it like this. Basically, it's like Obama was out for a leisurely swim, and Bush handed him a 300 pound weight and said, "Hold this." He was given the helm to a sinking ship. At some point it will hit bottom and turn around. I'm just afraid that it will take several years to do so. In the mean time, continued negativity from everyone just makes the market more fickle. The Repubs lost, Obama won. Get over it already. If you don't like the way things go over the next for years, then have your party pick someone better to trot out for elections besides McDummy and that whore from Alaska.

Just curious, do you think that will be a true bottom, or merely a jumping on point for bargain hunters and quick profiteers to get after it, let it rise for a 1000-2000pts and jump off again?

I don't care for Obama but I have to agree this economic problem is rooted from many years ago. We mistook consumption with credit to be prosperity. Too bad we did not learn that lesson from the 1920s. Time to relive history then.

Genius, I'm merely pointing out FACTS and numbers. You make of them what you wish. At what point do you feel like your Messiah should have a stake in this debacle?

He's not my Messiah. I bestow that title on the only one worthy -- my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
You are correct. The facts do show a CONTINUED downturn. I haven't followed the numbers behind the stimulus plan close enough to have a true, educated opinion on what it will do to the economy. Unfortunately, our market is a fickle system that doesn't react well unless it gets the news it wants. Wall St. has a stake in the blame for our current mess, and the Obama regime is calling them on it. That doesn't seem to sit well with them, so the market continues to tumble. It will turn at some point, I just hope it's sooner rather than later. Either way, I can tell you this. Things would continue to plummet if the government sat back and did nothing. Would you rather they pull everything including the FDIC insurance they provide?

Again, the Obama regime is throwing some blame at Wall Street as well they should be. Wall Street is responding as expected because of it -- negatively. However, sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. I'm wondering when someone is going to start making the crooks accountable. Can we get a noose for the oil speculators any time soon?

Or they could just be responding to the largest spending bill in American history, done on credit. You think that may be it?
People who speculate in oil are now crooks? Hedge fund managers should be hung? Well, I guess it is easy to see why you are so far up Obama's ass, comrade.

Doing nothing would have been better than what is being done. Ask Japan..."The Lost Decade", originates from Japan's 9 bailouts that didn't work in the 90's. All Barry is doing is creating a false bottom to this whole thing. The quicker we sink, the quicker we recover.

Okay, fair enough. When do you think Obama is responsible for the economy, the War in Iraq, any future terrorist attacks, etc?
I would also ask that of your candidate if he/she had won.
There was a thread about this and most gave Obama complete responsibility on Jan 21st since his supporters pretty much blamed Bush for the 9/11 attacks.

I have been jumping up and down, screaming this for the last six months. Remember the dolts that kept saying "something needs to be done" back when the first bail-out happened? Remember how many people said it will not do jack-shit but post-pone the eventual?

No but you soon will if you keep waiting on 6500 this week.
6755 hit today right in the middle of somone's low range given this morning when futures were only down 128. Watch the 12 - 15 % run up from these levels.
Dow futures are down 128 but I'm gonna say 6500 this week might be a little low for the next bounce, A 12 - 15 % run up is in the works I'm looking for a turn in the 6650- 6800 area after they wash out the stop orders resting at and under 7000.
