Got a letter in the mail today from the army that says i have to report for muster duty even tho i'm out and in the IRR. i read in to it and it sounds like a scam to push people back in to active duty.
Has anyone been to this yet??
If so, what's it all about??

I am assuming that "IRR" is Inactive Reserves. They can call you back during this time. I would call a local recruiter just to see what the deal is.

When you join you do so for a minimum of 8 years. You serve what ever active time you choose and the rest is in the IRR (inactive ready reserve). You can be called back to active duty any time during those 8 years. If you served 8 years active and then got out, you are done.

My old roommate did 4 years active and 3 years 4 months inactive, in the ARMY, when they called him back. He was sent to Iraq for 15 months. :banghead:

I thought they did it once a year just to make sure your contact info is up to date.

I wouldn't know though, 8 1/2 active.

yeah i know how the 8 year commitment works, but i've never heard of them calling you back just to check contact info?? why dont they just do it over the phone instead of having to go all the way back to post i left? But its the Army and their always up to something stupid

Oh yeah, everytime i talk to them, they address me as a PFC, I didnt get stripes for nothing. Even when i correct them they still get it wrong.
