Check the p traps for blockage on the drains under the sink.

Has she had a new Disposal installed?? If yes, there is a block-off plug in the disposal that needs to be knocked out. Dishwasher will not drain at all if it is not removed. I speak from experience.

I had that problem at my old house....I just rented one over at the Depot, and did it myself.

I know you said she's your Ex and all, but does that mean you aren't even occasionally running the snake for her anymore?? ;)

just out of curiosity, is this a new dishwasher or new disposal? if so, when you made the connection at the drain pipe under the sink (disposal), did you make sure that the "knock-out" was removed from the connection point? that's a common mistake and it will force all of the drained water back through the auxillary drain. this usually happens when a disposal is replaced or a new dishwasher is installed, because generally the drain for the dishwasher is ran through the disposal, which has the "knock-out" that must be removed.

Yes, run a snake through her p trap. That will fix all her worries..

I don't think Daneeka would like that anymore than I would Fred...

The disposal and dish washer were installed around the same time years ago and it has worked fine.

So I go to home depot and ask about renting a snake?!?!

You can but it's a bit of a bitch if you've not done it before. Call around to some local plumbing companies to see what they'd charge to snake out a line. Might be a little bit more money off the hip, but guaranteed to be done right the first go-round.

if there is trees around the house than there is probally roots running through the pipes and you will have to snake it once or twice a year. A neighbor at my old house told my to pour ice cream salt through all the toilets and that will kill all the roots but I did not stay long enough after doing that to see if it works. Hope it works
