None of the Techies on here have brought it up, but what do you think about this guy? He won't renew his contract? Any thought's? He beats UT, and now he's even more cocky?

Nothing. Both sides have agreed to the base compensation and the the notice to the AD if he goes to interview with another school. The only things left are the incentive bonuses and the termination. The termination proposal that Leach is wanting is the same one that he has now. This deal will be closed soon.

He's been a little "odd" at times, but I can't imagine why he wouldn't sign and be done with it. It seems like the AD is getting pretty testy about the whole thing, too. Maybe he's fishing for a better gig?

IMO Gerald Myers is getting testy because he is the one that said he was going to offer a new deal after the OSU win and didn't wait until after the collapse at OU and Ole' Miss and the one that almost happend with Baylor. Now he has backed himself and the University in a corner by not waiting atleast another year to see what happens with the team. Everybody knows that a premier school will not take Leach. Its not because of his coaching, but because of his personality and his lack of interaction with the media. I am a Tech fan (I have to be because the wife went there) but I don't see them doing any better than 8-4 next season.
Obviously, the school doesn't want to go back to a state mediocrity that is 7-5 and play in the toilet bowl every season. They also don't have the big time atheletic budget that UT and OU has in order to bring in the Mack Brown's and Bob Stoop's of the world. They have no choice but to come to terms with Leach however, if Tech goes back to mediocrity then they want to have the right to terminate Leach's contract with the least amount of remedy.

The contract offer to Leach would put him within shooting range of what Brown makes, according to the paper. I just wonder if Leach is concerned about the team next year and is holding back because of that, sort of giving him an out? I want Leach to stay so that I can watch him get his ass whipped in Austin next season, so it's for selfish reasons on my part.:)

I don't think the score will be as high now that they have moved the game to earlier in the season. Taylor Potts has a gun for an arm but he is not mobile so if the UT DB's can cover for a 5 count then Potts is going to feel like he got ran over by a truck by the end of the day. I look for UT to win by 17.

Potts can throw the piss out of the ball. Without Crabtree, it will be interesting. I don't know what Tech will do on the defensive side, or who they lost.

who are we kidding? Tech will be Tech again next season. They will make a game they are supposed to lose exciting by either winning, or losing in the last quarter, and they will have a piss poor performance against a lesser team and either lose, or just squeak by and still end up with a 7 or 8 win season. Tech only does as good as they do because of Leach and his schemes. They will never have the talent to compete year in and year out with UT and OU. I am actually looking at Baylor to take a jump either next year or the year after as being the #3 team in the Big 12 south. I am still going to buy my Tech season tickets though.

Obviously, Leach is a huge part of Tech's success. I guess that's why I don't understand the supposed "rift" (for lack of a better term) between he and the AD. Even if Tech found a great replacement, it takes a few seasons for a new staff to implement their own styles...just ask A&M. They all thought there was someone better out there, and the program has fallen a few notches.

I agree...That Baylor team will be something to watch next year....And A&M had a heck of a recruiting class.

I am not familiar with what is going on. I could see that Leach has had enough of Lubbock. You see what his offense did when he had talent in 2000. In Lubbock, his resources are limited. I can understand if Leach was ready to move on, especially with the disappointing finish of the season. Tech should be doing anything and everything in their power to keep him. When Leach goes, it is possible the Tech program could be ruined for the better part of a decade, if not longer. Winning brings talent, without Leach, I don't see much winning, and with the limited talent Tech can get their hands on, losing any would send that program into a downward spiral. On the other hand, at some point Leach is going to want to move on. He is going to want to try his hand with a program that can get 4 and 5 star talent year in and year out. At some point, a program that can do that will get desperate and hire him.

I saw where he hired a PR firm that's going into Tech today to set up a pep rally in support of Leach...Huh? It was in the DMN this morning. I was hoping to get an update of how that was going. They were rounding up students to show up outside the athletic office for an organized "positive showing of support" for Leach.

Well, they couldn't get it done yesterday, but he's still got 2 years, and the package is worth $6 million ($2.65, $2.35 per year, then another $1 million in incentives). Only about 40 supporters (fans) showed up for his "pep-rally", according to the DMN, so maybe they're not that concerned?

man, I don't know what to make of this. On one hand, Tech should cave and get the deal done...but at the same time, they can't throw money out the window if one of the provisions takes effect.
I am also surprised that only 40 people showed up...of course, having the pep-rally at noon, on a Tuesday is pretty fucking dumb. That campus is huge, and to walk from one end to the stadium would take a good 20 minutes. Kids do have classes and have to squeeze in a shitty lunch too.

My kid is at UT, and if Mack Brown was relying on her to show up to support him, he's fucked.:) She loves going to every home game, but on weekdays, her plate is full.

This is starting to get out of hand and I don't blame Leach for holding out. There is no way I would sign a deal that would let the university collect the money for my speaking engagements nor would I agree to the remedy upon termination.
This may come to an end on Friday if the regents do what people think they are going to do.....fire him. This will be something that Tech football may never recover from.

Is that what they're saying? I hadn't heard that, but I'm by no means in the loop. They would be sabotaging the program for years to come if they do.

Yep...Seems alot of media sources are throwing that out there. Tech and Leach are made for each other but I can see them doing something crazy like that out of spite. If they do, who are they gonna get? Art Briles isn't going to leave Baylor because if he can do there what he did at UH he will be coaching at a premier school. I don't see Gary Patterson taking it unless he is fustrated at having a ranking determine his BCS fate every year.

tommorrow should be interesting. Leach acts like he doesn't give a fuck. Some of the provisions TT has put in the contract are dumb, especially the money for speaking engagements/appearances.

but all accounts say money is not a problem, so why is this money portion of the contract a problem?
Tech should give him what he wants before they ruin their program. I just bought season tickets damn it, they can't do this now!

After I read the emails that were posted on the DMN, I hope Leach tells his agents to take a hike and not pay them anything. Looks like Leach did the right thing and spoke to Hance directly without involving his agents and Myers. Myers needs to understand that Leach is the big man on campus in the athletic department.

Awright, awright, awright! As much as I like for Texas to beat Tech, I really didn't want them to have a shitty program. Now, A&M is a different story...:firedevil:

I watched the press conference yesterday and it seemed hard for Leach to hold back the smiles. Hance appeared extremely happy and even referenced reading notes from students/fans/alumi and how the ones sent later in the evening were something.. Myers on the other hand didn't have alot to say and it was probably in his best interest not to. Hance also said that the actual negotiations took about 10-15 mins to resolve in his office.

I think if Hance was involved from the beginning, this would have been a non-issue. I get the feeling that Meyers didn't quite know where he was "allowed" to draw the line with the buy out and all because it could potentially cost the University money. Once Hance got involved, it was done.
i am glad the fans had an impact and were voicing their opinions. I was contemplating sending a letter and I was also contemplating getting my dad and his friends who have deep ties to the football program (that was in the 60's) to write in, but I figured since, one person in particular, doesn't have as much pull as he should, it wouldn't matter.

I definitely agree. Hance said that he had a little 1.5B dollar budget to attend to while this was getting out of control this week.
Not sure what to expect next year from Potts but he does have an arm. I am down here in the Houston area so I have seen alot of Friendswood highlights and the QB (Karam) that they got is awesome. He very well could be every bit as good as Graham.

What's the word on Harrell with the draft? Anyone heard anything? I watched some of Sanchez at the combine over the weekend, and they acted like he was "OK". He was off-target a little, and under-threw a long post route.

Same shit I saw all year from him. I don't think he's worthy of a first rounder.
On Harrell, most of the mock drafts had him going in the 3rd/4th rounds.

yea, word was a few weeks back that scouts were starting to questions Harrell's arm strength. Can't find the exact article I saw, but this metnions it as well.
