View Full Version : Camping: Who's in?

ThreeFingerPete
02-02-2009, 10:02 AM
Tyler is 2 hours away and is not currently under a burn ban
Lake murray is an hour and 45 minutes away and I'll find out later today whether or not the ban is going to be lifted.

Who is going?

Both are too far for me to just go for one night, and I have plans Friday that I can't break.

Shit, have fun though!

Everywhere else has burn bans that probably aren't going anywhere. These two sounded promising.

Ya, the burn ban sucks.

I'd go pitch a tent Saturday night at Joe Pool or something, but not if I can't have a damn fire.

I have access to 6 canoes with paddles, life jackets, and trailer for whenever this is to go down. I'd need some advance warning if it will be a two night deal or just Saturday night.

Tyler State Park is a good place to camp. Ya'll remember Tyler is a Dry county so if you want to bring alcohol you need to stock up before you leave DFW. You could think about camping at Lake Palestine which is right outside of Tyler and is also near the beer stores. Just a thought.

Well, based on everything we have found it looks like the only roadblock on the dog is that she has to stay on a leash. Logistics is the real question here. How many people will really go, will we try to get multiple people in one site, etc.

Also, last time we tried to go to Tyler they were booked solid. Reservations need to be made ASAP.

Chili

$3 per person to get in and $12 a night for a tent site. Souldn't do too much damage. Gas, food and drinks would be the biggest expense.

I think we are in.. I will probably make reservations for myself and may even drive out there on Friday during the day to get a good spot.

Not really actually. I cant sleep when im at work. Ive seen alot of guys sleep their ass off, I just cant do it. Unless, it was a rough night at the titty club!

ThreeFingerPete
02-02-2009, 11:08 PM
Meet up and carpool. I can carry 4 people plus gear, so gas would be minimal when split.

Ryan, your total outlay depends on how much you care to drink over the weekend. I don't plan on spending much.

Leah
02-03-2009, 08:47 AM
We won't be able to head out there until around 5:30 or 6. How many spots do you think we'll need? Craig was going to drive up there during the day on Friday in order to get a good spot and take some things out there-he could get everyone's spot at the same time if you reserve and pay online...just a thought.

Canoes would be great for TSP. The lake is small enough to canoe across the whole thing, and if I remember correctly, they don't allow motorized boats (maybe trolling motors or motors under 3 hp, if that).

The fishing isn't spectacular there, but they are there.

It's 5hp on the motors, and I agree on the fishing. I didn't even get a bite when I went, but a cold front came through on that day.

I'd recommend Site 143. It's on a hill and about as secluded from the other campsites as you can get. Now if you want a bunch of sites together, that might not be the best choice depending on how many people are going. It does have a large driveway and is close to an overflow parking spot.

I'm guessing there isn't a demand for getting into a canoe at this time of year, huh?

Maybe we'll do a DFWstangs spring fling where canoes would be better suited.

Well, we're in as far as I can tell. I got reservations and paid yesterday. Just took the puppy in for rabies and kennel cough vaccinations today and will be boarding her. I didn't like the idea of her being stuck on a 6' leash the whole time.

If all goes well I will drive out Friday afternoon to get some of our stuff out there and set the tent up, since it will be dark when we get back out there. Once I get the spot I will post up the site number (and text you Adam) so you know where we'll be. Is anyone else going? Adam, if not (or only one or two) we can have up to 8 people at a site (and two cars) so you are welcome to just pitch in on our site. Or, if you want a seperate site and trust me to pick on for you I can get yours while I am there. Just let mr know.

I'm thinking we'll be out there around 8pm Friday.

We have a lantern, portable gas grill, table cloth, hatchet, matches, etc.. and I will bring some wood. If someone does want to split the site all they will need is their own chairs, tent stuff, food and shit. Also a bundle or two of wood would be cool. I would offer to carpool but the Impala will probably be pretty loaded down.

Looks like it's You two and I this time around. Everyone else is in that "bail" column except for an unknown fourth.

I'm down with just pitching in on one campsite, there should be plenty of room.

For some reason these camping things are hard to get people to commit to.

So I'll just let you know what site we end up with. What time do you think you will be out there? Based on Jared's advise I will be shooting for space 138 but will look at it first to make sure it's good.

Do you have a sleeping bag or anything? If not, we have some extras we can bring. We also have an extra 2 man tent, but you are welcome to use ours with us-it's for like 6 people. Just let us know and we'll bring anything with us that you may need.

That goes for anyone else interested in going as well. If you want to go, but don't have any gear, post up and we may have enough to lend out! Come on, people-be adventurous!
