Is it safe to shoot a shotgun with no choke tube screwed in, or will this do permanent damage to the gun/threading?

Thanks

DO NOT shoot your gun without a choke in it.

You'll destroy the threads.

thatll do it, thank ya

think it would be okay to buy a choke and ream it out to a skeet/cylinder dimension?

they make scatter chokes.

What he said. Definitely the easiest route to go.

If you are looking for a good spread choke, look at the BRILEY DIFFUSION. Thats what I have and it has helped my game 10 fold. Its basically a rifled choke almost.

they make scatter chokes.

I am aware of this, but they do not manufacture such a choke for my 10 gauge

biggest spread choke I can find is modified

I know its a novelty of a gun, but I would like a imp cyl or skeet choke for next dove season. I think it would be cool to use my new 10 gauge reloader and load up some nice #8 shot and give it a try.

search cylinder choke instead of skeet or dove chokes. They make them for browning 10 gauges.

I have been looking for a while (using the nomenclature you just mentioned)

and no manufacturer makes shells greater than #6 shot

You know you could just use a 10-to-12 adapter, right? Then you could shoot cheap 12ga ammo at skeet.

first one that comes up

for the most open pattern you need the cyclinder choke. the tighest pattern will be trap full or turkey full.

why the hell would you want to use a 10ga on a little dove? You hoping to turn them into a dust of feathers?

That's pretty much the result of that little test.

I was brave (or dumb) enough to pull both triggers on my old man's SxS 10ga on a dove a few years back. It was like a hand grenade in a pillow.

I know its a novelty of a gun,

I wouldnt call a 10ga a novelty gun, they are great for geese, cranes and turkeys. They have their place in the field :)

Why not take a brake hone or an adjustible reamer to one of the chokes you have and open it up?

Not really with the development of the 3 1/2 12 gauge shell

most see the 10 gauge as obsolete nowadays
