I am considering purchasing a Rock Island 1911 it is a .45 not the .38. Has anyone owned or shot one? I want a few opinions before buying next week.

Can't go wrong with the taurus model 1911, I think they are in the same price range 600ish?

When I bought mine, I only paid $385 new. Personally, I think it was well worth the price, and preferred it over several of the other model 1911s. Ended up giving it to my Dad as a gift, and bought a Springfield 1911 after I couldn't find another Rock Island for a decent price. Kinda kick myself for it, but my Dad really liked that thing. Anyways, never had any issues with mine. Came with a Novak mag I think, can't remember. Its a basic GI style 1911, so don't expect the night sights and such on there. There are a shot load of parts for it, as it is compatible with just about every other 1911 parts and such. Pending on price, you really can't go wrong with it. Supposedly the Taurus is a good pistol too, although I've only used one of their 1911s once, so really not alot of experience to go off of. But I will say this, it did shoot just about as good as my Springfield Loaded 1911. I'm sure if you added in the better trigger, sear, and hammer, it would have been at least the same as. There's my $.02
