Mirefire dropped off his SKS to get the same treatment as the Nagant I did earlier. He wanted to change the color over to a deep red and polish the steel. Here's what I started with:

http://jadefalcon.shackspace.com/Pics/Weapons/100_0475.jpg
The knots and bangs are visible throughout the stock.
And here are the afters:

I think it came out pretty good, definitely a beautiful looking gun now, sure to attract attention. All the knots and damage on the stock I was able to remove. Polishing the steel on this gun was extremely difficult, the quality of steel on the norinco (and really any of the sks's) is pretty rough and uneven, but I was able to get a decent result in the end.
I had never seen a polished SKS, so it's certainly unique!

Have you ever done the "blackwood" stain? very dark and the grain is darker? I bet that would look very nice.

Man who's SKS is that?? That is PIMP! :slomo:
All joking aside, I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. It doesn't even look like the same gun.
Thanks again CJ best $$ I have spent in a longtime besides disposing of that tranny hooker's body :)

Yep, I have a whole plethora of stains up in my cabinet. I have a Remington 870 and an Arisaka Type 99 that I'm working on now. These will be traditional restorations.

Thanks for the compliments, direct those at Mirefire, he owns this fantastic gun now.
I really would like to refinish a stock set on an AK, preferrably someone who has an old set of furniture, because I enjoy making custom stocks and engraving more than clearing and wetsanding, haha. I'd like to try engraving a large hammer and sickle soviet symbol on an AK stock with "victory as one" (победа как одно) written in russian.

CJ did a great job on this...it's hard to see just how well it came out being on that red towel so I did a set of before and afters also....you guys should really have him restore your older stuff.

Can you polish the barrel on my H&K USP 40? And if so how much?
What will you charge to polish my AK?

I dunno. I bought the gun like it is. I think it's just original wood painted green.

If you had a second set I'd give it a shot, but not on your primary.

Looks good, Makes me want to try your step by step on mine.
Might sound goofy but have you tried to "camo" a stock with different stains?

If I had someone interested I would give it a shot. I had actually been wanting to try that.

You can try it on mine if you want, we could always sand it down and start again if it looks to nappy. And would make it worth your time, pm me ballpark figure. We don't need to polish any metal I don't want the extra attention that could bring.
