This question was raised at work. What would be your preffered method for slaying a Zombie at close range with a blade? Im a battle axe type myself.

axe, unless it's a katana or something.

A "good" Katana will slice three heads as faster than you can get the B Axe up for another chop plus you have to be a strong MF to work a battle axe properly.

If you use Wing Chun swords you will smell their bad breath and they just might grab your ass before their head falls off.

Not another zombie question. lol

It actually depends on the type of sword and the type of axe, there are so many different kinds with different specialties that you almost have to specify. A foil or rapier would be useless. The best weapon would be something like a voulge which would allow you to keep your distance while hacking the shit out of something. It also offers more striking force because of the length.

my plan of last defense has always been the chain saw on a stick, like the tree trimmers use.

if that was not an option, sword for sure.

Not fast enough before you are overrun. Sharp, quick, and natural to the hand and arm will let you live to slay more. At least that's my experience from my zombie wars of a few decades ago. I'm a bit slower nowadays.:indifferent:

Neither one for me. I prefer a mace.

Hmm, you may be on to something there Wayne. Maybe I could tie one to a pool stick or something....

The best possible choice is the 6lb splitting maul, assuming they're the shuffling/Romero type.

A light sword. A heavy sword (long sword) or battle axe are going to wear you out way too quickly if you are fighting hordes, no matter what shape you are in.

A smaller chain saw would trump both if you are staying stationary with enough fuel.

Not if you want to stay uninfected. The less contact you have with Z gore, the better.

Lol, you are talking about using melee weapons to cut at the neck/head of infected and gore is your concern. Really, nothing so close should be considered.

It's not my preferred state of being, for sure.

katana would be more enjoyable, BUT in a true emergency case a bladed axe would have multifunction ie...wall destroying for escape etc...
