Me - 27 started working out again 4ish months ago, work out from 4-7 times wk, diet is mostly chicken, fish, rice, rarely have fast food, take protein and vitamins, no steroid use.
I was towards the end of my second set of flat bench (do three sets usually adding weight each time, doing 12 reps, 10 reps, then as many as I can get for the 3rd) with a bar and standard grip. I think on this day it was our 2nd exercise after stretching and warming up.
The bar was almost all the way up when I got a sharp pain in my left shoulder/trap area. This was right before christmas and I stopped doing most of my upperbody stuff for a good two weeks+.
If I was standing up it hurt to raise my left arm in a nazi-esque fashion. The more above horizontal with the ground, the more it hurt.
I thought it was basically healed until yesterday. The pain originates from somewhere between the top of my left trap and my collar bone about midway down towards the shoulder.
I had an idea so I was on a flat bench with light weight dumbbells and had my roommate take his fist and apply pressure to the area. He was pushing forward on the area which would be downward if I was standing up. When he applied pressure the pain would stop when I pressed the dumbbells up. I was tempted to grab some heavier dumbbells and see if applying pressure would have the same effect, but I decided not to push it. As soon as he took his fist away it would slightly hurt to press the dumbbell up. He said it felt like "something was out of place and he could feel it go back in when applying pressure."
What did I do to my shoulder?
