Ok, so I know that the 'ticking' sound when I first start my bike is normal. However, after the bike is warm and ready to go, I can still hear a slight 'ticking', sometimes it's really noticable...and sometimes it's not. Am I just paranoid? Do yall think I have a valve out of spec, or the TCT maybe?
Any suggestions?
I just don't want to blow up anything lol
&& yall prolly know more than I do. :banghead:

Little more info needed. Year, bike, miles. It is most likely the cam chain tensisioner.

If it just started, get it checked out. Honda's don't require much in valve-train adjustments anymore, but we don't know what you have. Refer to post #2.

one thing you might check are the header bolts. pain to get to but might be a tad loose. other than that its probably a normal sound and the bike is new to you.

Yeah, now that i've been getting more comfy on the bike,
I think Im just listening closer to little things that don't mean anything.
ya know?
but im gonna get a buddy to help me check that out so I don't screw anything up.

Sure or Royal purple if you can :yup:
EDIT/Disclaimer.... Ive been away from sportbikes for 2 yrs now so there might be some other preferred oil these days.. Mobil 1 mtx and Royal purple were what i used on my '04 cbr rr and '03 r1.... times change though so join your local RR.net and ask them whats good these days ( synthetic should still be good)

well.
i googled it,
and Royal Purple seems to be the favorite, [even these days :09:]
it supposedly 'outperforms' leading synthetic.
seems a lil pricy ha.

Probably not much more than walking into Honda and buying theirs! I got light-headed when they told me how much 4 quarts of oil was! I'm like, "Damn...just give me the filter.":indifferent: $12 for an oil filter is was bad enough.

Randy, Check Walmart they are carrying filters now. I think they have a few K&N's in ours.

You can use Mobil 1 Synthetic that you can pick up at Walmart. It all depends on what you use you bike for, some drag racers use the cheapest stuff they can get as they change the oil either after every race, or every trip to the track.

before you go using car oil and syn oil, you keed to ask your self how often you want to change your oil? if you stick to the 3000 mile rule then run syn, if you go over like 4-5k miles a oil change then stick to mineral grade motorcycle oil. car oil is NOT recommended cause it does not have the same ingrediants.
look at it this way
a car has oil in the motor and seperate oil in the tranny
a bike uses the same oil for both
yeah there are people that dont agree with this, but why tempt it when motorcycle oil is a buck or 2 more a quart.
as for filters i have run K&N, hiflo, fram, and oe. they all work.

Check you oil level. also I believe that bike calls for valve adjustment at 16k at least my 06 did, yours could be sooner.
Also use a motorcycle oil. It has anti foaming agents that wont cause the oil to do so at high rpm's. Also for reasons mentioned about the transmission. I've heard some car oil can mess up your clutch as well, but dont know how true this is.

A friend has an 06 r1. He rides the shit out of his lots whoolie time etc and has the ticking sound on his also. Its even had a new top end put on it and still ticks but still runs good. I would check the tensioner like mentioned. I dont know shit about those engines but he had his tore down and it still makes the ticking sound.

It's prolly just your Fuel Injectors making the ticking sound, no biggie. Hell mine our loud too.

I run repsol 4t racing synthetic oil. For that oil and a good filter (k&n, mobile one, etc) you will spend $65 - 75.00. I have no complaints. I change my bike oil every 3-4k depending on what season of the year it is (summer temps are higher and break down oil much quicker so I change it more often). As far as the noise you are hearing it could be anything from injectors to valve lash. With the bike only having 10k it shouldnt be anywhere close to needing a valve adjustment. You could always check the lash and condition of the top end if you are worried.

65-75.....................you can get a hiflo filter for a fraction of the cost of a k&n, regular mineral grade motorcycle oil and have spent around 35 bucks

True, I guess it depends how well you want to maintain your bike. Regular oil isnt bad just not my cup of tea at 10k plus revs.

thats why most sportbikes have a 6th gear, honesntly do you ride that often over 10k rpms? litre bikes can run strong down low around 5-6k all day long. my 954 pulls from around 5k and i have no ploblems.
