Possible hockey GTG [Archive]

This is a long shot but I wanted to see how many hockey players we had out there... ice hockey that is. Me and Honnuer05 bought some skates a couple months back and we've been on the ice developing our skating skills every friday since we bought our skates. We were thinking it'd be cool to get a game going out at one of the Dr.Pepper Star Center's and rent out a rink for a couple hours.

No clue what the cost would be, just wanting to get an idea of how many play and would actually show up.

I hope you realize that ice is about $375/hour unless it's gone up.

My neighbor is 20 and plays goalie.

Dang that's expensive.... I was thinking maybe $150-200 an hour. Any ideas of other places where it might be cheaper?

That or any of you guys know anyone that's got some pull at a rink?

Ice is going at a pretty standard rate.

I've got to take my son to practice in about an hour and a half, I'll ask and get back to you.

Any of the Starcenter rinks are pretty standard with the rate. ITC in Richardson tends to be a little more reasonable or NyTex in North Richland Hills. Another thing to keep in mind, you typically can not rent the ice until after 10 in most StarCenter rinks. I will get a hold of a couple of people and see if I can work something out for cheaper tho.

Sounds good, I figure if we can get 15-20+ that want to play it wouldn't be too much.

Another cheaper route is to get everyone to just make it out to a drop in. It is 14 dollars at most, sometimes 10 and has a wide mix of skill levels. Just a thought.

I was thinking about that as well, just wasn't sure how many guys actually show up to those things aside from the ones who'd be from DFWS.

When I played dropin with Lanny and a couple other guys there was probably 30 people out there. Most of them were a LOT better than my friends and I (more on Lanny's level). If we could get 20 people to put in 15-20 bucks that would be just as expensive as drop-in and people wouldn't have to worry about being terrible.

Well you had a couple of us that were in Brahmas camp show up because it wasn't too far away from it. Right now the skill level at drop ins is down from what it is during the summers.

That's more like I was thinking, just cause I'm sure you've got guys that play drop in and that's really their only times to play so they'll probably want to play with guys around their skill level. I'd even be willing to spot $100 just to make it happen if it meant being able to get a rink to ourselves or not.

I'm sure that'd help, as of right now I just have skates. Slowly working on getting a full set of equipment. Like I said, I just bought a set of skates about 2 months ago.

Private ice runs about $400/hour unless you get it at some off-peak time.

I checked when I dropped my son off at DPSC Duncanville.

Thanks for checking Matt, that's about $40 per person for 2 hours if we had 20 people. Which isn't too bad IMO.

Honestly guys, best and cheapest time is to go to NYTEX on Sunday afternoon. There are like 5 people if that, that show up for drop in, so we would pretty much have the rink to ourselves for an hour.

Duncanville Starscenter has an I-League drop in once in a while. For those wanting to check it out. I believe Euless does also. But at drop-in no one cares about skill level much and those that do a normally a-holes anyway so who cares about them.

The only thing I would recommend is to skate short shifts. Everyone cares about how long YOUR shift is. (Ironically no one every cares how long THEIR shift is)

One of the things I've found is that all of the Stars Center's have drop in hockey and they all have I league, so I'm thinking we find a central location and just set it up for 10-20 of us show up for drop in.

Ok guys, i tried to get some more people to play, and i did, but there is a catch. I went over to my other foum i frequent LS2, and there are a few on there that play in a C, or D league,a nd they want to play a Stangs vs LS2 game if we can find some ice. They were talking about finding a ref for cheap and all. I think they play at NYTEX. And NYTEX is probably going to be the easiest, cheapest, and most centrally located for this to happen. Anyone game for this idea?

I wouldn't mind beating them just for the hell of it. I might be able to find some refs but I am not sure about the goalie part. I tend to wonder a bit out of the crease or turn around and talk to people a bit too much.

I am interested as well. I think it would be more fun to have the rink to ourselves rather than worry that a bunch of drop in guys would come out.
