Best bang for buck????

I was looking around for a decent 9mm pistol and decided on either the ruger p89, a s&w sigma 9mm or a taurus 24/7 9mm ss. What do you gun gurus say about these three???

I have both the p89 and 24/7 you cant go wrong with either. I would stay away from the sigma. Positives on the p89 it can except 30rd's mags and positive on the 24/7 is its lighter so it would be suitable for concealing.

Lol, I love the typical glock or xd comments. Ive own a g32 for along time and can say that my 24/7 or p89 is just as good. I would put my life on it. Ive also owned a springfield 1911; it jammed on me everytime I shot it, so i sold it for the g32.

Ive had my p89 and 24/7 for over 6 years and with several thousand rounds through each not one single jam.

i have a friend with a tourus and it shoots ok but i absolutely hate the trigger. i would never buy one for that reason.

go to a range a rent a few. it will cost a little but better than buying a gun and not liking it

There can be many reasons for a 1911 to jam, if it was a brand new gun then you'll need at least a good 300 rounds through before it's really broken in, it could also be a user error too. One of the things I've come to realize after shooting a 1911 for so long is it'll let you know when you're doing something wrong.

It jammed on the guy I sold it to and he ended up having to buy a new extractor. I dont know if that ever fixed the problem.

Ok. Still not impressed. Ive been around a few xd's and have put several hundred rounds through them; there just another polymer gun to me. I dont see a reason why to jump on the XD bandwagon and spend 599.00 when you can get a good pistol which will do the same thing(go bang) for cheaper. Ive had my share of high dollar pistols and I still have a few, but i guess ive smarten up a bit when it comes to spending money on firearms.

It was not that high dollar when I bought mine only dropped $400. If you get a large enough demand for a gun dealers will charge more. I can see the 24/7 doing the same thing the xd did price wise. Sucks you had a bad experience with the 1911, my springfield GI champion has ben awsome and is my main carry pistol (it is more slim than the XD). If you look at most any pistol or hell any car out there you will find someone that had something fail, but you will also find the people that abused it and had not problems at all.

To the OP find a range that rents them or some people that have them and shoot the shit out of them

The cool thing about the p89 is when you run out of ammo you can club them with it. I owned a p95 for a while sold it to a guy on the forums. I never had a ftf or fte. It was a great gun for a first pistol.

All those guns have slide locks. It kind of becomes a personal choice really. The slide locks are in different locations. The magazine releases are different. Some guns feel nose heavy. Some feel too fat around the grip. Some are better made than others. It's hard to pin point specific items without you actually having the gun in front of you. A lot of it is about what feels right for you. If you are trying to stay in the $300 range, you won't have many choices. Bump your price range up a bit and you'll have many more to choose from.

The same advice applies to all new gun buyers. Go to the gun rental place with someone who knows something about different hand guns. Touch and feel the different ones and ask questions. Try not to go with a Glock die hard or an XD fanatic. Narrow your choices down to a few that feel right in your hand, then shoot those. At the end of that exercise, you'll have the gun that's right for you. It took me 3-4 trips to the range to pick the XD over the Glock. I rented both and shot both multiple times.

I totally agree with you. I don't understand why people talk down on ruger p89-or-p94 pistols :wtf1:. Its heavy but a very durable inexpensive gun that is very accurate. I bought the Taurus 24/7 pro in .40 cal for my wife, and its a very good quality gun for the money. It has so many features especially safety, and again another good bang for the buck gun.

I didn't spend near that 4 years ago, so I can't relate. I own/owned many handguns over the last 30 years, and I'd rate the XD higher than almost any other, for what it does. My son in law bought a 24/7 at Thanksgiving for himself, and all he wanted to do was fire my XD out at the ranch. If you can't see the differences, then you don't really use them to their potential, or care about those differences.

You trying to state the XD is a better firearm then the 24/7. Its not up to YOU, its up to the person firing the gun. glock, easy to use easy to break down, great for first time shooter owner. Just my opinion have a glock 19 never jammed after over 2000 rds or so.. mods are cheap too..

For a first timer there's nothing wrong with spending what your looking at for a decent gun to get you started. My first was a S&W Sigma .40Cal, yes I know most everyone on here hates them but after doing some research online about it I felt good about the purchase. It's been a great gun, fits me well and shoots nicely. No jams yet out of several hundreds of rounds put through it. I think I paid like $250 for it used.
Also, bought a Walther P22 for fun and so the wife can get use to shooting. Another great gun.
Then I got a Taurus PT111 9MM from Academy on Black Friday for $239 plus tax. This is the one I carry in my car, smaller, feels good when shooting I couldn't be an happier.

It gets addicting, don't feel like to have to go all out on your first. Work your way up, you can always sell your first to put towards a better one.
Most of the guys on here make over $500K Year so it's easier for them, don't worry about it..LOL

+1 I bought my wife the sigma 9mm for christmas, we ran about 200 rounds through it, no jams no FTF's. I took it out to wileys gun shop in Wills Point, did pretty good at 75 feet.

I wish I made about 1/2 of that $500K! The only reason I have several guns, is because I've been buying them since 1980. Even after selling some off and swapping around, I still have too damn many. You can only shoot one at a time!:yup:
There's always something better around the corner. My buddy has several different Kimber's, and acts like there's nothing special about any of them. Hell, I can't even go buy one, much less a closet full.

I guess you miss my post above where I said I owned a g32( midsize glock .357 sig). No lack of knowledge here. I just keep a open mind about different firearms. I dont base a decision soley on price. Ive spent years handling different handguns as well as reloading my own loads. Sold all my reloading equipment when I got married.
