Disk image/copy issues.

New to me SATA disk installed, used Macrium Reflect software to image my IDE disk and copy that image to my SATA drive. I then opened the image and copy/pasted the contents to the disk. after removing the old primary IDE disk, the system does not recognize windows on the new disk. After I boot from disk it says "no windows installation to repair"

Have i missed a step somewhere?

On the majority of motherboards less than a year or two old you will need to install them. This takes place during that first blue screen you see when you start to install a version of Windows for the first time. It will say on the bottom when it is loading files from the CD "Press F6 to install 3rd party SATA/Raid etc.. drivers".

make sure that when you copied the image you did 2 things.

1) you made it the primary (set to active) this is done IN the partition/image, I'm not talking about IDE master/slave.

2) you copied the master boot record.

copying the MBR alone will work, it just won't be c:

IF you still have problems, use norton ghost, it's the industry standard.

Does not sound like a drivers issue to me, it is recognizing the disk...

Go with what CJ said and just use Norton. Boot off the Norton disk, do a disk copy within Norton from your IDE to SATA.

EDIT: If there's room on the IDE drive, create a partition on it and put the image on the partition the "restore" to the SATA w/ the rescue disc that you created.

BTW yall, I recommended this program to him because I've used it for a couple yrs. w/ 100% success and it's free legally unlike Ghost.
