I've had both and I couldn't tell a bit of difference between a russian, chinese, or yugo. They all worked just fine and were all just about as accurate.

I prefer my Chinese to my Yugo. It feels a lot more "balanced" w/o the bayonet and grenade launcher and sites. I do love em both though.

I will say though my chinese SKS launches shells in an epic fashion. I've never in my life seen a gun launch shells straight up 30ft into the air, and that's no exaggeration.

The Yugo does the same. Pissed my friend off because they were all going on top of his roof! LOL!

Must be something with the extractors, because the russian and yugo I had were pretty limp wristed when it came to ejecting.

Maybe cosmoline still in the nooks and crannies? LOL! I have a love/hate relationship with cosmoline.

I've had 2 different friends get an NIB Chinese SKS and have it slam-fire at the range. I'm not going to tell you not to get one, but be aware that there are alternatives. They didn't have any select-fire parts on them, they just didn't lock up right.

Nothing wrong with the Chinese SKS's. They had a rep for slam firing back in the day, but that was mainly due to people taking them apart and putting the firing pin back in upside down. They had a tappered firing pin that has square in the back. Some firing pins when put in unside down would stick bad and cause slam firing.

The chinese fixed this on later models.

I would not get a Yugop I have had one and if you try to modify it to accept clips it has several feeding issues and jams alot. The Chinese is built to accept magazines and my dad has one and has for many years and has had no problems with it. I would not get another Yugo.

If you want a SKS with mags, go buy a SKS model D. They were factory SKS's that take AK Mags.

I have a chinese and I've had no problems what so ever. I've used for hog hunting and its very accurate and one of my least used guns right now. I've seen some Yugos at Military Gun Supply going for $200. They had about 20 of them. Those are going to be the most abundant.

One of the forum members dropped off a practically new Norinco chinese SKS today and I just disassembled it, and it's probably without doubt the tightest son of a bitch I've ever worked with.

Those Yugos at MGS are covered in tons of cosmoline. I saw a guy pick one up and then put it right back down. He wasn't thinking and wiped a grease spot on his khaki's. LOL!

I love how they have them just stuck in a bin next to the pellet guns, classic.

Any of them will slam fire if you don't get al the cosmo out of the bolt/firing pin.

I love my Yugo SKS. It's been working flawlessly since day one(and a lot of cosmoline cleaning). Also have a buddy with a Chinese and it seems to jam up and just doesn't feel as solid as mine. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. Haven't tried a Russian one yet though.
