FPS on the PC

What are the big first person shooters that everyone's playing? Since I've got the new rig I can actually play all the games out there. Looking for a good FPS to get into.

Is FEAR pretty good? Seems like a dark twisted type of game from the cover and screen shots.

Thanks man, I've got some downloading to do. I've been playing Planetside and ArmA for the past few years and I can't wait for ArmA 2. I definitely lean a little more towards the tactical shooters.

ArmA 2 should be a pretty badass game once its out. ArmA was pretty difficult when I first played it. My dad really got into it though more than I.
But since you like tactical shooters, take a look at Swat. Its pretty old, but its play style is really different from your average FPS. And it is/was pretty challenging (the original, I haven't played the expansion)

No joke about it being pretty difficult, I play with 6 other guys and normally play on the hardest mode. Needless to say half the time we beat the missions and half the time we dont.

I've actually just finished SWAT 5 about 2 months ago, great game and very difficult IMO. I loved it though because it took me forever and it actually made me listen through each briefing before playing each mission.

the only fps i still play is Call of Duty 4. And i dont really play it that often right now, even though soon imma start up again. I never tried CoD5 but i have heard from quite a few people that it sucks for the most part. It is pretty though.

I've been playing a lot of Left 4 Dead lately, badass game.

In terms of tactical, Battle Field 2 has a damn good mod called Project Reality that is amazing. COD4 is an instant classic. America's Army is pretty good too in terms of realism.

However, the above games all rely that you enjoy multiplayer.

Pick up Orange Box IMO. Portal and TF2 = Must have IMO (Not to mention all the half life stuff!)

is Left 4 Dead worth it?

The game seems really cool I'm just afraid I'm going to get online and be stuck on a team with three 14 year old kids who just want to cuss, scream into the mic, and play techno music for the entire map.

This happens occasionally in CSS but thankfully I can just mute them and ignore them. Left 4 Dead seems very team oriented between the 4 people and I would think if you didn't have decent communication between your team then the game would suck.

L4D is very worth it. However, if you don't have anybody to play with it can really suck. Pubs can be really bad and it's a crap shoot.

CounterStrike Source is really badass, just it takes alot of practice, so if you ever start to play it and you lose alot dont get discouraged because you will eventually get the hang out it..

you can try zombie panic:source also if you get Counter strike:source.. I am the owner of an 18+ age server as well.... so its not a bunch of kids and the server is located in dallas so its a good ping...

CS beta took a lot of practice. CS Source is spray and pray.

OK downloaded CoD 4 and it's pretty freaking kickass. For some reason the multiplayer won't work but I'm fine with the single player for now. Graphics looks badass with a 9800GT btw. Game actually makes you think, i'm playing on hard and have yet to beat a mission the first try.
