How do you use the serial port to upload files from your pc, i have never done this always use usb but this time it doesnt have the option, when i plug the cables in the pc/ receiver box should it pick it up itself etc..

What are you trying to upload? Does it come with any software that you use with it instead of just what Windows has you use?

trying to upload bin files from my pc to my sat receiver.. theres aloader tool that i have to use but i can get it to read the serial port

Your going to hear COM a lot, its just another name for the serial interface. You can access this through hyper terminal or various other programs such as Secure CRT.

im thinking i may have the wrong cable for this.. can you tell what it is if i post the cable i have..

there saying i need a null modem RS-232 cable

You should be able to buy one at radioshack.

lmfao top speed is like 128k, why the fuck would you use a serial cable. this thread is stupid.

OH UPLOADING BIN FILES TO YOUR SAT. I thought you were just going to do regular file transfers ^_-

Your cable is probably 'straight through', you either need an adapter on the end that swaps the TX (transmit) and RX (receive) pins [which is what makes it 'null' or another cable that already has it done internally.

As mentioned, Radio Shack will have one.
