I'm sorry man, the PS3 nazis might make you disappear saying there is something wrong with the PS3. There is NEVER ANYTHING WRONG with a PS3 from what I'm told.
I'd check the disc and give it a cleaning. Remember not to clean discs in a circular motion and to be careful.
Given a new game worked, I presume the other games you have worked - so it sounds like a issue with the specific disc.

that's a very common problem and the only way to fix it is to send it back to sony. Mine did the same thing a couple days ago. You'll need to contact customer service. they have a 12 month warranty.

Wow, ya'll are better at picking up details than I am. Did not realize he bought a new console, figured just a new game from the post.
Did the console not read any discs or just that one? Your symptoms are quite vague.

Bad blu-ray drives seem to be a popular issue with ps3s. Been able to get the drives cheap off ebay. Not saying thats what it is but just what I have run into

If you never registered it then you can still have warranty fix it. I generated an ebay receipt for mine and sent it back.

Hey Fred, Alex is having the same problem with his. When I was researching the problem I did see a few posts with COD4 users having the same problem after an update for COD4. Just thought I'd mention that. Alex's is out of warranty to so it looks like he's going to be spending $150 to get it fixed.

Although fraudish, it's not a half bad idea. :)
