I just upgrade my whole computer to 64 bit vista and replaced the cpu, ram, motherboard, hard drive and tower.

I got quad core amd 2 2.51
8 gigs of ddr2 1066 ram
asus m3a78t motherboard
wd sata 500 green drive
thermaltake armor tower

Here are some stats to show.

I must say 64 is quick as expected. The 64 internet explorer is fast. The only thing I don't like so far is that the adobe flash player doesn't support the 64 os. So no youtube for me right now :banghead:

my desktop just took a shit and I was wanting to upgrade to vista and get a network storage drive anyways. I took a shot thinking maybe it was just the power supply, but that didn't work. The random shut downs just kept happening and now it won't even power up. Might as well put another one together if I'm going to replace the motherboard..... I haven't messed with buying computer stuff in a while so I don't even know what's decent anymore.

I found out after I started this topic that the score is based off the lowest score on the scorecard. The highest score can be 5.9! My lowest score was based off my hard drive. Maybe I should get a 10,000 or 15,000 rpm drive? But I've also heard those drives at those speeds can burn up easier. So, if that's true it would be a waiste of money.

Flys has a Samsung 1TB drive w/ 32meg cache that xfers nearly what a slow raid setup will. Mine does something like 97MB a second and they're or were only 119 out tha do'.

Also, if the power settings are set to conserve the battery, it will slow the bus speed down.

I tried the 25.5 out, for like a day at a friends house. And I really liked the size, but when I tested the 28 out at bestbuy (with my laptop, they were pretty cool about letting me hook up to it) I knew I had to buy it plus it was cheap as hell.

I think I got it for 400 out the door.

But it doesn't bother me when playing games, I had to adjust the settings out of the box a ton though. And there wasn't much to adjust, I really want to get ahold of a colorimeter.

32 bit Vista can't allocate anymore than 3.1X GB of memory, and that's if you're lucky; when I had 32bit and 4Gb (2x2GB) I maxed out at 2.8X GB. You can confirm in the task manager on the performance tab, look at the Physical Memory box and see what it says for Total.

Dang Roliath, ballin on the hardware.

I'm a whore for hardware.

Concerning the SFF, it was built for my dad. I really only keep up with Nvidia and Intel stuff, so I didn't know too much about the 785G chipset, nor what AMD had to offer these days. Luckily I got help on hardforum regarding the build out from LT_Shiro. And it was great budget build imo.

My build log/bench log.
