View Full Version : Is anyone here just too nuts to ride and they know it?

Because I think I'm this guy. I've owned sport bikes, but never really rode them, just buying broken bikes and repairing them, then selling them off. The reason being is I think I'm just too nuts to ride a sport bike, I'm completely crazy and I'm pretty sure I'd end up scattering my remains across 2 miles of freeway - so I've steered clear of it. Anyone else come to this conclusion?

That's what about a million people I've known say. If you were actually nuts, you'd have been riding. It's called being scared.
Nope, I know we're all going to die of something and only God knows when it's our turn to go so I live life to the fullest. I ride and go snowboarding, and bungee jump, skydive and all that crap.
You can die doing any of that.

hmm, excellent point. Except the part when you called me a bitch :)
Maybe so, but I just think I'd end up killing myself.

That pretty much sums it up. I knew I was gonna get fucked up when I was a teenager and started racing motocross...................but fuck it, it is fun! I don't ride a sports bike because I don't like my front end coming up when I hit the gas hard...............but I ride the ever loving shit out of a chopper. I mean, I ride the fucking thing as hard as it can be ridden................well, not as hard now that I have a son.

Either you have no self control, which is sad, or you are just scared of them and want to find some ridiculous excuse to try and hide it.

I was terrified of bikes until my dad MADE me ride one when I was 10. 2 wrecks and numerous close calls and you still couldn't make me stop riding. Grow a set and have some self control and you'll be fine. :D

you will find out how "nuts" you really are after getting one. until then you are just another guy with the same old excuse like every other badass without a bike.

Getting older actually has some advantages. I quit trying to set land-speed records in my 20's. :p I still like to go fast, but in a much more "controlled" environment. The old adage, "There's a time and a place for everything", comes to mind.
You mean the time and place is not going to I-20 in rush hour?
There is something to hitting your 30's+ and realizing that you are mortal, plus it takes to long to heal.

However I was quite happy to already have a decade of driving experience.
other people drive bad, you need to be good to take on the street. Real easy to be going fast around a bend someone won't see you comin.

Tell that to all of the folks that have died on bikes in accidents that were outside of their own control, in cases where the accident probably wouldn't have been fatal if they were in a car.
I have chosen not to ride, but not because I'm scared of bikes or scared of what I would do. It just doesn't seem like enough fun to be worth the risk. I'd rather dive with sharks, have a close encounter with a bear, elephant, or big cat, go hang gliding, base jumping, or bunjee jump from a hot air balloon.
Bikes are cool. They just aren't that cool, to me.

Well it sounds to me your just scared, so what if your crazy WE ALL ARE.....hell you can die just as easy doing normal everyday things....i know for damn sure i would rather go out doing something i love!!
Plus being crazy is one thing, and then riding at crazy speeds on the edges of mountains and cliffs with your knee buried in the pavement is another :D Just ask Stallion176 (Eric), he made a little trip out to Cali to ride with me, and well he's a crazy fucker, but wanted to have no part in it.....But thats oks Eric we will get you there some day.... :D

I love this "logic"....yes you can die doing anything but I have a huge amount less risk of dieing then you doing something I love...vs riding a bike in uncontrolled conditions everyday.

I have a bike in the garge that i hardly ride. Why because there are too many idiots running the streets of dallas. You cant ride normal speeds without the fear of some jackass taking you out and the faster you go the faster they go. Cops pull you over for every fucking thing imaginable. After my last ticket i just decided it wasnt worth the risk or the trouble. It belongs on a closed track where you can actually ride the fucker the correct way. Riding down the hwy with one hand on your side or popping a wheelie isnt that cool anymore. A real rider is on a course leaning the shit out of it not on 360 on one wheel trying to impress some highschool chick in a hyundai

Yep, i never let anyone determine my fun in life...just like i will never let gas prices determine what i drive....Bikes are not for everyone, if you have one and have the true passion for it, nothing will come in the way of you riding it..IE: other drivers on the road, F them just go out and have fun.

It hurt listening to his list of breaks, contusions, concussions, etc. Maybe it's because I'm still reeling from the pain and effects of my recent wreck/breaks, but once is plenty for me to slow down and realize the ramifications of my actions. Either he's got alot more passion, or I've got alot more common sense. You have to have alot of faith in another person to jump out of a plane without a parachute on, that seriously had me

People don't generally get their mirrors kicked for doing nothing. Cut someone off or retardedly swerve into the lane that a motorcyclist is occypying and they might lash out.
Manslaughter sounds like a reasonable charge for a mirror.

Well, Adam is a big dumb caveman, so it is not hard for him to stoop to your stupidity. :D
Honestly though, a mirror does not deserve to get kicked off unless it was an intentional cutting off..............and in that case, you are a little bitch if you did not follow them to their destination, kidnap them, hang them upside down like a deer, and slowly peel each and every layer of skin off while feeding it to your pet hamster........which you will then donate to one of their family members without them knowing that said hamster will have a taste for blood and will have eaten their relatives!!!

I feel ashamed for the fact that the last year I have only put 200 miles on the R1. I lost the love for it that I once had. True there are a lot of people out there who act a fool, I was one of them at one time, but it's not a good enough reason to quit riding. When I got my 600 a few years ago, it opened up the door to how much I loved riding. Once I got the R1 the first 2 years I put 12K on the clock. I rode in rain, sub freezing tempatures and enjoyed the hell out of it. I didn't have the thought in my head that I was going to kill myself acting a fool, I came close but anyone who rides knows that they only go as fast as you want them to. It's all about self control. With that being said, why wouldn't you take a chance and ride. I'm pretty crazy, but I never let it get the best of me or to keep me from doing something like riding, which I have enjoyed for 24 years since the age of 4. As a matter of fact when it get's daylight i'm going to charge my bike, check it over, make sure i'm all legal and try to re-light my love for it:cool:

If you think you're crazy you'll generally ride more, learn the bike more, etc so you can ride crazy but be in control while doing it.

Knock on wood but, I've yet to get a ticket on the bike. Maybe because, while I do occasionally speed like crazy, I pick where I do it. Also, my crash at MSR shrunk my balls on the street. I RARELY act a fool on the streets. Occasionally, I'll find a nice corner and lean it over but, not like I used to ride the curvy roads when I first started riding. Like I said, crashing shrinks ya balls a bit. Now I save the 90% riding for the track.
BTW, I'll be tracking the RR this year at ridesmart events. :D

You are referring to my older brother in this thread. He IS crazy, way to nuts for riding, but does it anyways. You are aware of you desire to speed and ride crazy, but know better. Some folks should be observed for a prescribed period of time to determine the eligibility to ride. You would pass, my brother would fail before the time period was over. You should in fact ride, I myself have the same urges but choose to contain it unless i know (or at least im relatively sure) im in the clear. Go out and have some fun, thats what i did. Bought my first cruiser bike, got insurance, and got out on the road with it. I really need to look into getting my endorsement one of these days. :yup:

If you are pushing the limits of your machine and your speed you will have a heart accelerating experience everytime you throw a leg over. Those experiences affect you less and less as you grow accustomed to riding at speed. This has been my dirtbiking experience. The more I get flat and sideways the less I notice and the less time I need to recover from a near crash. Used to nearly swap out and be like woah, now its back on the gas to keep it straight and never let off.
