I was not that impressed with Vista on my Dell laptop that I bought about 6 months ago so I wiped the HD and reinstalled XP Pro, installed all the drivers, apps, and updates necessary to get it up and running and have been very happy with the computer since. After listening to this back and forth debate about which is better I am going to put the original Vista Home Premium software back on a spare drive I have..and attempt to get the thing up and running just like it did on XP Pro. Wish me luck. Already having driver problems and I have only reinstalled the original OS that came with the computer. This should be fun. :D

vista is a great operating system, much better than XP. You just have to learn it.

well so far it is unable to find drivers for the logitech webcam that came built in..and the logitech software disc that came with it also says it won't work. SO FAR (crossing fingers) everything else seems to work...bluetooth, wifi, graphics card, etc. Switching every available menu to classic menu helps, but some things are still WAY different.

Learning/Using Vista now is a good move. The OS is pretty solid these days and easy to use. No major leaps/bounds over XP IMO, but XP is dead or will be dead soon so might as well get used to the newest OS if you can and/or have the opportunity.
Take care

update:
It isn't all that bad. There are a few programs I used on XP that won't work with Vista but I have found alternate programs that do work. Not real fond of the wireless networking menu now that windows has combined them all into one menu, but once I figured it out I can deal with it. It is better looking visually but that is only my opinion. It does boot up a tad slower than XP Pro, but we're talking maybe 10 seconds. It still works and operates a lot like XP did, so I'm gonna stick with it for a while and see how often it pisses me off.
