I've been reading up on shoulder health and found some good articles. I thought some of you guys might be able to use some of this stuff.

That's pretty informative. I'm gonna start throwing in some of those scapular exercises for sure.

I've started doing the pushups and they feel really good. They are weird at first but once you get used to it they are nice.

Thanks, I am at pitcher that is coming off of shoulder surgery and I have been looking for something that goes in depth into shoulder health aside from the normal physical therapy routines.

Yeah, I have always had problems with my right shoulder on and off, and this explained a ton of it. Good stuff.

"Shoulder Saver #16: Ditching the Barbell Upright Rows

I've often said that I don't believe in contraindicated exercises — only contraindicated individuals. I still stand firm with that statement, but if there is one exercise that will ever push me over the line, it's going to be the upright row. This is as internally rotated as the humerus will get, and you're elevating the humerus right into the impingement zone on every rep.

For that reason, I'll never write this into a program for a client or athlete. The dumbbell version is a slightly safer alternative, although I feel that there are still much safer ways to challenge the upper traps and deltoids. To summarize, if you've ever had a shoulder problem, suspect that you might have one now, or have other predisposing characteristics (i.e. poor posture, lots of overhead work in your daily life) that might increase your risk of impingement, you'd be wise to omit upright rows altogether."

Well in 99-00 I blew out my left rotator cup and had to get it scoped, due to barbell benchpress and the spotter well not spotting me on max wieght.

Well just recently while my brother was in town I asked him was he was doing for his traps. He said upright rows on the smith machine. Well I did them and will never ever do them again. (This was with very light wieght to no wieght on the bar.) I am absolutely 100% positive this is what did it, felt it, and it just got worse after that. I finally went to the orthopedic dr. after it was keeping me from sleeping and waking me up for an hour at a time.

Scewed up my right rotator cup and had a cortizone shot Fri. with a presciption for some nyproxin, oh yeah and physical therapy. I did find out i have a slight bone spur, but doc said a lot of people have big bone spurs and are never bothered by them.

So hopefully this will help and seems to be helping. I really don't want my right shoulder to have to be scoped.

I do nothing with barbells exception being curls, other than that all dumbells and machines. This was an exception, and a bad one at that.
