You know, I don't necessarily like this bill, I've never been an advocate for open carry. I would prefer that those carrying are concealed, so criminals never know who could shoot them. I wouldn't want to make myself the first target.

I agree. But I'd love to be able to carry my new 1911 without worrying about printing or showing the end of the barrel.

If you sign the petition it doesn't necessarily mean that you yourself would have to open carry, so sign it already!

It's at 31,108 currently...

I'm pro gun and support the right to carry but I'm not sure I would advocate open carry. One effect could be that many stores and restaurants will start putting up valid 'no guns' signs up to keep any form of carry out of their businesses. They may specifically target open carry but could also prohibit concealed carry. Plus, we could have many cases where someone bumps you in a crowd and takes off with your gun. With concealed carry, no one knows.

Even though I am an advocate to concealed handgun carry, I will not vote for this bill simply because it puts too much responsibility on the carrier. Its too much of a invite to criminals grabbing your gun. Happens all the time to cops. This is a bad ideal.

Even if it passed, id never open carry. Too many people will either freak out when they see it, or like Renan said, try to steal it or maybe even think they have the jump on you knowing what you're carrying and where it is. Now I know its not smart, but IMO the unknown is a better defense these days...
I can only imagine the "ammunition" that will give the liberal fucks more backing to implace more gun laws. I just see more harm than good coming from carrying in the open, this isnt the old west anymore and as nice as it would be to carry open without worrying about anything, the days have changed...

didnt Obama say he wanted to remove the state laws on CHL? Said he wanted the federal government to have control over these issues not the states?

I agree. I think to myself sometimes when I'm standing in line "how many people are carrying?" I really like that criminals that to have that same thought process. Open carry is irresponsible and dangerous IMO. I will stick with my concealed carry! :)

That's so it's easier to ban chl's all together, one bill for all 50 states.

I'm pretty sure he stated that carry laws would remain under state control. His beef is with sales of weapons.

Gun owners need something to be paranoid about.

He is more against Assault weapons and mags holding more than 4 shots. Thats why its so hard to get AR's right now. People are buying them up faster that the manufactures can make them.

Edit: and high capacity loads.

As much as I hate to say it some of you sound like the anti gun groups rant about concealed carry (blood in the streets, gun fights at stop lights). You nay sayers need to go to an open carry state (where they have none of the trouble you speak of). I opened carried my Glock 21SF all day in town today (Alamosa, Colorado) and no one said a thing or even looked at me. I will be open carrying in Albuquerque this week end (as I have many times). I carry open in Utah (except in church and national parks/monuments). I have carried open in Tucson but don't get out there much.

The bottom line is that the scary situations that are described here do not happen often or never in the open carry states. Texas is way behind the curve on open carry. One does have to change holsters to more secure versions and of course be aware of you surroundings (like you should anyway). Also laws vary as to where you can go just like with concealed carry.

The problem is that you have been deprived of your rights so long you have forgot what being free is.

Anyway, if someone grabs my Glock or CZ, I will just pull out the back up gun before they can extract my main weapon.

Same here.

And anyone who thinks Obama is gonna leave any kind of firearms alone had better check their facts. He wants to eliminate 90% of gun shops, outlaw gunshows, increase tax on ALL ammunition by 500%, believes that all pistols should be outlawed, believes people who use firearms to defend themselves against criminal attacks should be prosecuted, and the list goes on.

Now is the time to get educated and proactive. Don't wait until its too late to do something about YOUR RIGHTS as a citizen.
