Long range military style

Hey all, Im looking for a rifle thats got a heavy barrel, and can be shot long range. Looking at something like the m24 (i believe thats the right model), Im coming from Im figuring a .308 but which one is a nice smooth bolt action. Though a semi auto would be nice do to the fact that target reposition wouldnt be needed.

Remington 700P or Savage model 110p are both excellent in .308

Do a search on here and you'll find some good scope recommendations for decent $$$ also.

I don't know the guy, but I think price would come into play on that decision.
