between an sr16 and an ar15? i got one of the ~45 secret service guys to tell me what kind of rifle they're carrying around with them on duty in the city and he said it was an sr16 m4. he showed it to me and looks just like an ar15 :confused:

Looks like Knights Armament manufactures this weapon. They call all their rifles "SR". Kinda like S&W calls their ar the MP15. Im not sure what separates their rifle from others.

so, is ar15 just a generic name for an semi-automatic "assault-rifle" like the ones the guys build here?

AR is the term for the company Armalite. They were the creators of the rifle. The media however likes to make it sound that the AR = Assault Rifle.
So techically the AR-15 is short for Armalite 15
