Well not even 24 hrs into this, Russia is poking us with a stick. 5 nuclear regiments are being put back into service and stationed on their western border. They are blaming us for the Georgia conflict, and have claimed they will jam our missle defense systems. Anyone want to speculate on how this will play out?

IRAN WARNS U.S. NOT TO VIOLATE IRANIAN AIRSPACE
November 5, 2008
Reuters reports: “Iran's military has warned U.S. forces in Iraq that U.S. helicopters had been spotted flying close to the Iranian border and that Tehran would respond to any violation of its airspace, state radio reported on Wednesday.
The statement from Iran's army headquarters comes just hours after Americans elected their next president, Barack Obama, who has said he would toughen sanctions on Iran but has also held out the possibility of direct talks with Tehran.
The warning also followed a raid by U.S. forces into Syria last month, a move that was condemned by Damascus and Tehran.
‘In the statement, it says recently it has been seen that American army helicopters were flying a small distance from Iraq's border with Iran and, because of the closeness to the border, the danger of them violating Iran's border is possible,’ state radio said, quoting the army statement.
‘Iran's armed forces will respond to any violation,’ it said…”
HAMAS FIRES OVER 35 ROCKETS TOWARDS ISRAEL
November 5, 2008
Reuters reports: “Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip fired more than 35 rockets toward Israel Wednesday, the army and the Islamist group said, hours after the Israeli army killed six militants in the coastal territory.
An Israeli police spokesman said the rockets landed in southern Israel, causing no damage or injuries.
Hamas claimed responsibility for the attacks, the first such announcement by the Islamist group since an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Israel went into effect on June 19.
Palestinian officials said they had been informed by Israel that all commercial border crossings with the Gaza Strip would remain closed Wednesday in response to the rocket attacks.
Israeli airstrikes killed five militants and Israeli soldiers shot dead a gunman during an incursion into the Gaza Strip Tuesday.
The army said it launched the airstrikes after militants attacked soldiers who entered the Gaza Strip to destroy a tunnel that Hamas had planned to use to kidnap Israeli soldiers.
The latest violence could jeopardize Egyptian efforts to extend the fragile ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and further complicate Cairo's efforts to secure the release of an Israeli soldier kidnapped by Hamas two years ago.
Hamas has said it would release soldier Gilad Shalit in return for hundreds of Palestinians held by Israel for their involvement in violent attacks against Israeli civilians during a Palestinian uprising…”

The missile shield is all President Bush. Russia has already said they were going to publicly re-point their missiles back at Europe.
No doubt, Obama will have to deal with a more aggressive Russia.

Actually, the missile shield concept was hatched during the Reagan Administration. Your knowledge of history fits that of your messiah well, you can't remember anything past the end of your nose that doesn't fit your agenda.
No doubt, Obama will get bitch-slapped by a more aggressive Russia.

"Things have changed in the past eight years. It is unlikely that Putin, now Russia’s prime minister but still the country’s most powerful man, will be kept waiting when his aides call America to arrange a meeting with the new president.
Nor will Putin be as ingratiating and eager to please. Then he was the president of a broken, penurious country trying to find its place in a world utterly dominated by the United States. Today he steers a country eager to reassert itself and ready to challenge America at a time when US influence seems to many in Moscow to be on the wane.
No longer the supplicant, Russia is likely to try to test the new administration, probing its weaknesses in an attempt to humiliate its old Cold War foe."

Ok, so the "concept" is not new. You want to attach the current program to the Cold War program? I'm so gullible, I thought we were now concerned with missiles coming from rouge nations. I missed the Presidents statement of how the purpose of this new shield was to defeat Russian ballistic missiles. So, what you’re saying is the Russian are currently justified in viewing this as a threat to them.

Russia, as well as the rest of Europe, knows now that no missile defense system will be deployed by the next administration. They are now free to do pretty much as they please, knowing that the new U.S. admiinistration and congress will do nothing. Given that no defense system will be deployed, what exactly are you proposing that Russia views as a threat?

On August 20, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski signed in Warsaw the Agreement Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of Poland Concerning the Deployment of Ground-Based Ballistic Missile Defense Interceptors in the Territory of the Republic of Poland. This legally-binding agreement calls for the establishment and operation of a U.S. ballistic missile defense (BMD) interceptor facility in Poland.
No deployment? This program looks like a go to me.

Sept 11, 2008
US Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama has said he will only proceed with installing a US missile shield base in Poland if it does not target Russia, Poland's foreign minister said Thursday.
"In talks with me, senator Obama made the realisation of our (missile shield) agreement conditional on whether he will be certain that the system is not aimed against Russia," Radoslaw Sikorski said at a joint press conference in Warsaw with Russian counterpart Sergei Larvov.
I hope he cancels the whole missile shield program in Europe. I don't know how we are profiting from this venture. What are we gaining by pissing off the Russians on this issue? Did we sell the War on Terror to our allies by promising NATO a missile defense? Nevertheless, it seems more likely that Obama will stay on the current course.

Russia will threaten Obama and he'll pull the plug on it. They know that the U.S. will not be standing in their way now should they decide to return to the days of yore when they were the only major player in Eastern Europe. Oh, and unlike the liberal electorate in this country, they also won't give a fuck when Obama and his crybaby congress cries racist.
Not only that, expect Russia to directly expand their influence militarily in the West by virtue of their new buddy in SA.

I was reading peices of the only three known thesis papers from his law school days. While they were a little better than smackatorum standard English, they weren't that good. Not top of the class good.
I also suspect considerable plaigarism, especially when he has apparently approved the title of "professor" in his bio, when he never was a professor.

Exactly. Now is the perfect time to bury the bastards. If oil were truly a national security issue, we wouldn't be relying on the rest of the world to supply us with it. As I've said many times, let them eat that shit for about 5 years, and lets see how many indoor ski resorts and elaborate beach resorts Dubai can build.

do you think the surge in oil prices last year was just because of greedy oil companies ? that it was just by accident that it is bringing down the very regimes who have been causing the most trouble ? that the world economies have tanked because of it ? the usa has weathered steep down turns before and came out on top. it took over 10 years and huge oil profits to pull russia out of the shitter , with out oil and gas they would still be there. there is way more going on here than meets the eye . to even begin at understand it you must look at the whole picture and history. bottom line is you screw with our economy and we'll bury your ass just by tightening our belts a knotch . first just imagine how much money they loose daily at 50 a barrel and how fast they are using their cash reserves . remember they wrote checks at 90 . if oil is kept under or right at 50 a barrel thru summer they are toast.

The original point of speculation was about planning and budgeting for selling and deliveries of future goods. What the funds/banks were doing was artificially manipulating the prices just to turn a profit with no intent to actually buy the oil (take physical delivery of). That's where I have a problem with it.
