who did you hear that from and what made you say kenya? I don't agree with the wishing death but I thought it was strange that kenya borders Muslim loving countries. I also think it's strange that a large number of Muslim countries are the most f-d up places. If i wanted to change to a third world country i would have voted obama also. Brilliant post man, lets archive this and bring it back after presidential support has dropped through the floor.

You republicans are a bunch of sore losers and never have anything positive to say about anything on the other side of the fence. Fucking grow up, your side lost so stop being little bitches and whining about completely irrelevant shit. Be a man and take the loss like a man. I'm with Vertnut. I'm going to pray that he does what's best while in Office. Anyone wanting their President to fail is basically wanting the country to fail. I just hope "his best" is what is best for this nation. Whether it' happens to be right or wrong, failure in his position is serious failure to all of us.

First, I think the thread about the Obama death poll was stupid and in poor taste. And that is basically what I said when I saw that thread.
Secondly, I am ashamed at the direction we are taking. I'm ashamed at all the life long Republicans that sold out their base and voted for Obama on the basis of race. I'm ashamed that our country made a decision that compromises our safety. I could go on and on.
And I have a question for you that I know you can't answer. When Michelle Obama said after her husband won the Primary, that this is the first time she's been proud of this country. How did that make you feel? Did you send her a letter recommending that she move to Kenya?
She was never proud of this country prior to that moment. All of the sacrifices and accomplishments made that created a path for Obama to ascend into the highest office in the land. Nothing to acknowledge there, I guess?
Send the Obama's a copy of your feelings on the matter. Don't be so selective when you start hurling around tasteless insults such as this. Try and include everyone for the sake of fairness. You should understand the concept of fairness being an Obama supporter.
See, Michelle and I are a little different on this subject of pride. I was very prideful of this country from birth until last night. Michelle Obama was not proud of this country from birth up until 6 months ago.
Bummer, huh?

As always you speak the truth.
My 4 year old asked me last night at dinner if I had a good time voting yesterday. I was blessed with a bright little girl who listens closely to me and wants to understand the things I do to the best of her ability. With the pride instilled in me by my grandparents and my parents I proudly answered her YES. She then asked me why I voted and what voting meant. I told her that it is our responsibility in this wonderful country to vote for and try and pick the best people to lead us and make big decisions for all of us. She then asked me if I voted for the best person and if they were going to win. I told her that I made the best decision to vote for the man I believed in to do his best for us. I also told her he may not win, but that it is our job to hold whoever is elected to his promises.
I too like Denny will be praying that Obama will do whatever is in his power to protect our country from harm and make this a better place to live. If not like I told my daughter he has 4 years and if he does not do his job it our duty to replace him with someone who will.

the financial crisis killed mccain's chance to win. i believe that most of the voters that would've voted republican but voted for obama in this election did so because they were voting against a republican and not for obama. if you have an election during bad economic times, the opposite party from the one that's in office can say just about anything and people will jump on the bandwagon. in this case, all obama had to say was "change" and tons of people hopped on his side...no substance required.

I think it is more akin to Nixon as far as policy. Its hard to separate the two though.
Winning platform was to end the war and pull the troops back home, and once elected that kind of bogged down while Keynsian wage and price controls and subsidies were enacted, stifling the market.
Carter made it worse with a one-two punch by initiating a grain embargo and not vetoing subsidy increases to farmers and to transportation interests. Carter, actually set the stage for reagan's success by removing many of the market controls and just leaving energy for Reagan to deregulate.

It's more important to me that we are all Americans, than whether or not my guy wins. Obama has a lot to clean up regardless if it were McCain or him. I just don't feel too secure with Obama getting the job done. It has nothing to do with him being Black! I think McCain would have known how to deal with the Iraq troops and how to end things with Honor. That's the part that chaps me the most is how will Obama deal with Iraq?
I don't care about race and don't care about anything but what that person brings to the table. Obama is only a movement and a bunch of Hype it's not about White or Black it's about the facts that Obama doesn't have the knowledge to get it done!

It could possibly be because I understood her meaning, rather than the soundbite. Not to mention, she was excited. And sometimes you just ramble. Sometimes words don't come out the way you intended. Like when McCain said "You know, I think you may have noticed that Senator Obama's supporters have been saying some pretty nasty things about Western Pennsylvania lately. And you know, I couldn't agree with them more." I knew what he was trying to say with that. I didn't go posting on a forum... "See?? Look! McCain hates Western Pnnsylvania!!"
Half truths have become the weapon of the Right, and you've fallen prey to them. John Cleese said that if it had been Obama who had been tortured in a Vietnamese prison camp for 2 years, that the Right Wing would have ads that said "He hung out with Communists for TWO YEARS!!". Or the fake ad that SNL did where the McCain campaign goes around & around and end with "Do you want Charles Barkley as President??" based on the fact that Obama played basketball. The American people got tired of half-truth warfare and the guilt-by-association game. Any time you say someone's guilty for being associated with someone, politically, you will probably have an association with that same person (Khalidi), somehow. That, plus Sarah, lost the election last night.

That isn't false either, it had a huge effect. I think wage caps on the Military killed any suport Carter had from that end too.
Do you remember how at the time the 55mph speed limit was a huge blot against Carter across the country? And the sound advice that instead of bitching about fuel oil prices the Northeast should learn to dress for the weather? That seems to be forgoten now. Or maybe it was just a phenomenon that I remeber being bigger than it was nationally.
Speaking of wimps to the world, that is very real; that is when China invaded Vietnam, . Mao had died and the new regime was hell bent on expansion. In fact I think Mao's death was a mini october (september actually) surprise working against Ford. After all the big bad commie was dead, we could all hold hands and clean up the planet together. Brezhnev took advantage too and built up the soviet military and invaded afghanistan. The final straw in the wimp label, to me, was the boycott of the olympics.

I don't really know what to think. I'm sour that my canidate didn't win. I didn't really pay a lot of attention to what Obama was doing or saying. I'm sure that he will do ok. I wish McCain would have won because you can see that the most important thing in his life is his country. Now we have a black president, and I hope that changes some lives by making the blacks do more. I know a lot of the blacks went out to vote just to see a black president win. That is fine, it just proves there are more ignorant people in this country then smart ones. So in my opinion I think that the world is declining on a daily basis. He would have been president regarless if it was this term or the next. I would rather it be this term then the next one because there will be no telling what we will be facing in the next term. A lot of the people that went out and voted this election will not go to the next one because they got what they wanted this time around. Hopefully this doesnt start a trend of unqualified people to run for president just because they know they can get people to vote simply by race. I hope that the economy gets better, and the world leaves us warless while he is in office.

Half truths have become the weapon of the Right, and you've fallen prey to them. J.
You know, Greg. I don't think you realize that I've voted for the Democratic ticket since Clinton. This was my first time voting for a Republican candidate for President.
I didn't fall prey to anything. I feel like it was the Obama supporters that fell prey to his change propaganda. Jimmy Carter '76. Great success. As a centrist Democrat, I cannot reach that far across the aisle to find common ground with Obama. I question his dubious affiliations and I question his policy.
You can argue semantics regarding Michelle's comment, but I'm pretty sure she meant what she said. It wasn't a slip of the tongue like the McCain statement you quoted. From a woman who embodies Public Allies, I believe she is being truthful when only feeling a sense of pride until a black man was successful in the race for POTUS.
You make remarks to me like I'm some gun toting zealot. Prior to two weeks ago my voting record is blue my friend. Obama is not my kind of Democrat. Obama was voted the most liberal in U.S. Senate in 2007. I can't identify with that. It's too far to the left. If he was more centered on policy, such as Bill Clinton, then this would be a different story. You may feel comfortable with a bleeding heart anything goes attitude, but I'm not comfortable with it. I still have one leg stuck in the past of old school politics. It's always been a dirty business, but the policy wasn't always careening on the outer fringes.
I'll even go as far to say that if you erase all of the Bill Ayers, J. Wright, ACORN, etc..then I might have voted for him out of allegiance to my party. However, the guy is just too shady dude. I'm sure you think it's all a right wing conspiracy to create and embellish these affiliations, but they are true. Obama always seems to find himself in leftist/radical circles and when he realized they were damaging to his campaign, he severed ties. Sorry you can't see that or acknowledge it. It's moot anyway. Your boy won. I think it was a epic mistake, but we'll see.
Get ready for a torrent of leftist agenda legislation to slide through Congress unabated. A wealth redistribution tax plan is a socialist doctrine. We had a Congress with the worse approval rating in history and we just gave them more seats. This is not cool. This is erosion.
Shall I guess the ethnicity of these people ? or is it pretty obvious ???

Well Denny, I am a human being who has opinions and luckily the freedom of speech. Like I said I lived in the United States for a few years. Your country offered me a college education and I am eternally grateful. During that time I met people who were very different than me. They dressed different, spoke different and had different worldly opinions than me. Those years taught me more about myself because I was exposed to a different cultural view. I even thought different about my own country as a result. Some good some bad. Kinda like life. I'm sorry some Canucks have posted here in the past in a way that offended you. I lived in Atlanta when 9/11 occured. Had a few friends leave who were in the army. I even inquired about joining as a Canadian to be a part of the U.S. forces. I have never even fired a gun let alone be involved in combat. But I assure you, I did not think of myself as a Canadian or an American. I just wanted to bring the people responsible for the attack on America to justice and stand up for the country that had offered me so much. I realize this is a Texas based site. I realize George W. Bush is favored. I just don't think he made the right decisions. Granted who the hell would want to be in his position. I don't know what I would have done. I might have done the same. I love being Canadian. I love thinking about my times in the United States. I think Obama will do great things. I think the country will prosper. I think sunny skies will once again shine down upon all of you and I am grateful. Because to see the U.S. endure the struggles it has during the past eight years has been difficult for me. Sometimes change is good. I hope so in this case. Peace and friendship.

See, all the hugs and fellowship talk are fine, I'm sure most here feel the same about you, but where do you get the idea that sunny skies have not been shining down on us already?
I know business owners on here who have expanded and corporate people on here who have prospered very well over the last 10 years. There are others who have skills and trade jobs that have done quite well. Veterans who feel they have made a difference and feel the satisfaction of representing their country. People have raised families, gotten educations, become involved in the world instead of watching it pass by, and overall I think their journeys have been fairly succesful, in spite of a few who have lost bullshit jobs selling rolling papers and shit, but overall they have continued an upwards journey.
In spite of all your peace and love talk you are still talking down your nose to a lot of people when you tell them their situation can "finally, at long last, improve". That is insulting, as if we have not been able to improve our situation and prosper as it is.
Obama will improve our already prosperous condition.

I am speaking about record numbers of families who have lost their homes, cost of living becoming out of reach and lower income families who do what they can to get by while staying off social assistance. America as a whole prospering better. Not just the business owners and or corporate sector. The United States is trillions in debt and there are parts of the world that have leverage against you. If this brings about conflict Canada is usually involved in a support role for you. Our economics are linked with one another. You just don't get it. The people here have been, in general, prosperous throughout their lives, whether because of or in spite of the situations confronting them. Why would they see a campaign platform that punishes them for that prosperity as a ray of sunshine? We'll take any break we can get, that is a trait of a survivor. But another trait is to see in advance when opportunity looks like its drying up and the future is looking mighty arid. All this nonsense about failure is a product of yellow journalism; the fact that so many pure losers have been able to prosper this long is a good example of how easy we have had it for the last 50 years.
Maybe you can explain why you think obama farts in musical notes and how his advertised policies are going to make it better for me? I understand that some have prospered in these times. In Canada we have a number of social assistance programs that are funded by the tax payer. What I mean when I say a better overall prosperity is the fewer people who rely on these programs as a way of life will relieve pressure placed on the prosperous ones in a social government. Obama pledges to help the lower and middle class. The more people who are middle class will make it better for everyone in your country. Do I wish I was taxed less in Canada, of course. I voted for Obama mainly because of healthcare. It's a joke in this country and i think it should be gov funded. healthcare should be a right not a privilege, just like the fire department, police, ect. There are too many hard working people that can't afford healthcare in this country and it's a damn embarrasment.
I completly understand the repub's not wanting to give out hand outs. I hate mooches on society too, but i know alot of these programs are needed. I wouldn't mind an agency being formed to investigate the legitamcy of cases where government help is issued. Mandatory drug tests and what not if you want to recieve gov help.
Oh and also a tax credit for the fewer children you have not the more. You should be rewarded for not throwing more work at the gov, not penalized.

No offense but you shoould look into our health stats compared to other counrties. We are the sickest counrty in the world and spend the most money. Insurance companies are the devil. If they were a non profit organization that you paid dues so in the event you had major medical expenses you were covered it would be awsome. But ins companies are more interested in making $$ that your health.
Cops don't ask you for anything when you call cause someone broke into your house. they just go. The fire department doesn't verify anything if you call and say your house is on fire. Doctors should be the same way. if your sick or hurt you shouldn't have to worry if you can afford to go to the doctor. you should just go.

The government should maybe provide asistance to those who can not afford it through no fault of their own, but should not run the health care system itself. The health care debate is a tough one because I've seen it and lived it to know firsthand how hardworking people get screwed on both ends. I do not think we should have socialized health care, nor do I think the government should back out 100% and leave health care alone.
A perfect example is somebody who owns a small business (less than 5 employees) and struggles to make ends meet - not because they don't work hard, but because they're just going through a rough time. Since the company doesn't have enough employees, they cannot get decent rates on a group health plan. But let's say the employees are willing to pay the extra 20% for being part of a small group plan, they still have to have 70% of their employees sign up for it. That means that if only 3 people at that company want insurance coverage, the company is screwed and isn't allowed to have the group plan. Now those employees have to get individual insurance policies. But guess what, individual policies can be denied due to medical history, or at the very least will cost a fortune. You can forget it if you have even the smallest blemish in your past (i.e. I can't get an individual policy on my kids because my daughter had surgery when she was a baby - she's completely fine now, but she's either denied completely or they refuse to cover anything that has to do with her heart for the first 24 months).
While I don't think the government should raise taxes to give every citizen health care, I do like the idea of having a plan that individuals can buy into when they don't have another plan available to them. Is that such a bad idea?

I want to go on a 400k vacation.
You can just go. That's why Tarrant County has JPS and Dallas County has Parkland.
LOL, this is how I read the thread at first.
But now that you think about it, all these municipal bonds must look good to someone right now.

Everyone does. The difference now is only one of taxes, after all.

the reason that doctors ask for health insurance is because they have bills to pay and if they don't get paid, they go out of business.
I'm talking about haveing a gov funded health care system. Where all the gov does is pay for it, not go all into your medical buisiness.

I would have no problem paying the $2,250 a year (thats just for me and the wife) to the gov for universal healthcare instead of to United healthcare.
I've come to hate my ins company even more this year after they went to some retarded $1,800 partially company funded deductible. It was a hot ass mess having to deal with the ins to get billed correctly after my wife had her gall bladder taken out.

As opposed to waiting months inder socialized medicine for, say, surgery? What would you have rather done, deal with insurance billing issues or had your wife sit on a waiting list for gall bladder surgery? The short-sighted stupidity of the liberal mindset and the sheeple who follow it never fails.

No offense but you shoould look into our health stats compared to other counrties. We are the sickest counrty in the world and spend the most money. Insurance companies are the devil. If they were a non profit organization easier to just poke fun at it.
Well if we are the sickest country in the world the we must have the worlds worst healtcare system?

The constitution says "promote the general welfare". Not "provide welfare and healthcare for every tom, dick, and gonzalez that comes across the border".
You know, I think everyone needs a car, too. The gubment should just provide that, too. Cars for everyone.
Come to think of it, everyone needs a vacation as well. 2 weeks gubment payed vacation for everyone.
Where does it end? The government owes us nothing more than what's in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. I think they go plenty far enough in spelling out what the government can't do to you. As for everything else, it's your responsibility to go out and EARN IT!
<--- Thinks that wastes of space that want the government to do everything for them should just go to Canada or Mexico. Leave and let us have our country back.

I don't know that I really support anybody right now. But Ron Paul probably comes the closest.
The Republican party needs to pull back, regroup, get back to their basic conservative principles and present a clear distinction to the democratic party for the '10 elections.
There was too little distinction clarified between McCain and Obama. McCain was the better choice but he was by no means a true conservative.
The problem is that I think everyone at heart is a conservative. Think about it, what part of the conservative philosophy doesn't work in every household (or at least households that we want to build America out of):
1. Keep more of your hard earned money. This works in white families, black families, mexican families...across the board.
2. Basic freedoms entitled by the Consititution and Bill of Rights. If you don't value those freedoms, you shouldn't be here in the first place...you'd be in Europe, Russia or China. There is no inbetween...these documents are quite clear.
3. The right to pursue happiness...not be provided happiness, the right to pursue it. If you don't want to pursue it, work hard to get it, earn it and keep it...go to Europe, Russia or China and have the government provide them for you. If you want to have it handed to you through welfare, please don't let the door hit you in your worthless a$$ on the way out.
4. The right to free speech. Who doesn't want to be able to speak, unabridged, and with no interference? If you don't want to hear or read what I say then don't listen or read it. It's that simple. Democrats want to bring back the fairness doctrine...what's after that? The Gustapo coming to your door because someone turned you in for speaking out against the president? What household wants that?
Shall I go on? haha :)

Is it still considered preaching when we're just showing the truth to the blind? Or are we educating the learning disabled? Or are we redirecting the herd? Maybe we're leading the lemmings away from the cliff?
Eh! Who am I kidding? You can't cure stupid. The next 4 years will learn 'em!

you know what I mean. You can't cure stupid but you can treat it with harsh doses of reality. Which is probably why all the 70s nuthanger idealists that are still around are either now working for the man or have never really worked. Or both.

Agreed. The thing is, they think their idealism is unrealized and has never been on display...however, it's been on display in Europe. Failed. Canada through socialized medicine. Failed. Hawaii through socialized medicine. Failed.
