 From Sunday's Televised 'Meet the Press' Senator Obama was asked

about his stance on the American Flag. Obama Explains National Anthem Stance

Sun, 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST, General Bill Ginn' USAF (ret.) asked Obama
to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

The General also stated to the Senator that according to the United States Code,

Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171... During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. At the very least, 'Stand and Face It'

Senator Obama Live on Sunday states, 'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides, Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'We should consider to reinvent our National Anthem as well as to redesign our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we as a Nation of warring people, should conduct ourselves as the nations of Islam, whereas peace prevails. Perhaps a state or period of mutual concord between our governments. When I become President, I will seek a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from
disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation have placed upon the nations of Islam an unfair injustice. My wife disre spects the Flag for many personal reasons. Together she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past, many years ago. She has her views and I have mine'. Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put aside my hatred. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path of hope. My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America.

WHAAAAAAAT the Hell !!!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you heard it right. This could possibly be our next President.

I, for one, am speechless.

Dale Lindsborg,

Ya know, there are plenty of reasons to not vote for Obama. I'm certainly not going to. I'm probably not going to vote for McCain either.

Are you one of those useless people that believes every fucking email he reads? Are you one of those useless people that forwards that same email? Do you ever take something with a grain of salt and maybe, just maybe, take 30 seconds to see if something is true or not before your regurgitate it? I say 30 seconds because that is exactly how long it took me to find out if this bullshit was true or not.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/stance.asp

There is enough factual reasons to not vote for Obama (or McCain for that matter) do we really need this bullshit?

Doesn't only military and ex-military salute the flag?

salute:

1 a: to address with expressions of kind wishes, courtesy, or honor b: to give a sign of respect, courtesy, or goodwill to : greet
2: to become apparent to (one of the senses)
3 a: to honor (as a person, nation, or event) by a conventional military or naval ceremony b: to show respect and recognition to (a military superior) by assuming a prescribed position c: to express commendation of :

When you are actually in uniform and not under arms you physically perform a military salute while standing at attention. As a civilian or someone not in uniform you "salute" by placing right hand or hat over your heart.

Obama wants to help the world and doesn't want to side with the United States, a typical liberal. McCain is US first and will work with other nations if it's in our best interest. Personally I'd side with McCain.

Unlike the OP, this at least is factual.

However, Snopes did point out that Obama has been seen on video reciting the pledge and putting his hand over his heart when doing so. They even have video of it from before his Presidential campaign.

Actually, proper posture for your hand over your heart is when the Pledge of Allegiance is recited. The Star Spangled Banner is a song, reflecting the sacrifices that were made to bring about this country. Proper posture for that is to stand and remove any headgear (if it isn't part of your uniform) or to stand at attention for armed service persons. It does look bad in that photo since he's not uniformed with the rest of the stage's attendants.

I might be the biggest anti-Obama guy on here, but I can't gig him for that one. That whole "hand over your heart" to the song deemed our National Anthem is just adopted public posture, probably from public sporting events. I don't think you're promising or pledging anything during that song.

I guess I'm just trying to say that I'm cool with either posture, but don't let me catch you talking, sitting, wearing a hat, picking your nose or anything else during the Anthem or Pledge. I'll call you the fuck out when it's over... ask my wife. She hates to get to Ranger games on time with me

I think YOU need to chill the fuck out. YOU are assuming too much on a god damned message board. Its the fucking internet smart guy. I too, just like you, am voting for who *I* feel helps our country, will keep our families safe, and can keep us at the top of the food chain. You may be more economicly better off than i am, and might vote for McCain. Or you could be a neo socialist and feel that taxing large and small companies to feed the masses is what we need, you might vote for Obama. Anyone with a spark of intelligence should weigh the issues and make an educated decision.

But to come on here and make such attacks and assumtions on something they don't fully understand is idiotic and shows lack of rational thought.

In a nutshell, I'm biased toward John McCain since I don't trust lawyer politicians (I think many of our problems are traceable to Congress), and I respect John McCain's ethics and character, professionally. I admire his devotion and sacrifice he's demonstrated to our country. I know he will take his last breath to preserving that which we hold dear... our freedoms and liberties. And, I believe in the free enterprise economic policy and smaller federal government of McCain-Palin as opposed to the socialist, big government philosophy of Obama-Biden.

1 question - If you voted for Bush, did you use the same reasons? Because that would be ironic since he created one of the biggest fed agencies and led the socialist bailout. I know there were reasons but you have to admit the irony.

PS - Thanks for the kind words on the photo. Now if we could just get everyone to stop yelling 'STARS' at the start of their games. No one is a bigger homer than me and I hate that.

Irony? I think it's a saddened state of affairs that a President on his 8th year doing anything to struggle for a little bit of support, even if it means doing something totally opposite of what he believes and what his party stands for.

If the media doesn't like you, the rest of America won't like you.

Denny - Do you think Bash did the bailout for public support?

IMO Bush reacted here like he reacted to Iraq. His advisors told him this was what to do. Now calm down and I'll explain. Bush seems to be a CEO type. As CEO you put in your department heads, CFO/advertising/etc. You allow them to provide you with information and advice. Then you decide and move forward. That isn't a bad way too do things. On the bailout, I think he listened to his financial guys, all out of the market. This was their department. I think the Wall Street guys had a picture of what a Wall Street implosion would do. And reacted to avoid it in Wall Street methods. May not be right but that is how it went.

Since I brought it up I'll also explain my thinking about Bush-Iraq. I think Bush listened to Cheney and his guys. They were shocked by 9-11 (we all were). They moved against Afgan and seemed to be almost done there. Realizing that others in the world would like to get us as well and with this new found worry that they might actually do something like this in the future. They developed the policy of preemption. They weren't evil, stupid, after oil. Cheney and his group felt our lives were at stake. Maybe they were right, maybe they weren't about Iraq. That is a different thread.

I don't think Bush is as dogmatic as many on both sides believe.

Bush, his advisors AND the whole Republican body involved. The day that was passed was a turning point in our government forever. I'm quickly losing my faith in ANYONE these days. The odds are so against those who use office for personal gain is far too gone to even compete with. I can't name ONE person who will honestly do what he/she feels is right for the people. I guess that's why I'll never be a politician.

You know, I'm to the point that I'll even vote for someone who doesn't have the same stances as I IF they can honestly base all their decisions on what they believe is right and for the best of this nation.

Thank God I believe that there is something better after this. If not, my brains would cover someone's wall about now. Society is a big joke and the politicians that govern it is the weak punch-line. I would honestly die a long, painful death just to see this world make itself right. It's only getting worse, daily.
