So what he's saying is that success WILL be punished. And I don't buy the argument of stick yourself back 10 years. Most people grow in income as well as spending as time goes on and he's trying to ruin that.
And his talk of the 250k being based on revenue scares me. My company sells roughly 3 - 3.5 Million a year. I don't make anywhere near that, but my taxes are going up regardless. I still call BS on the 95% of small business being under 250k in total revenue. Some small business are classified as such with up to 1000 employees, you do the math.

Of course that is bullshit. But what he will do is twist the definition of "small business" in order to make the numbers fit what he is saying.
Fact is, if you own a small business in this country the Democrats are your mortal enemy and have been for quite a while now.

Not to pat G.W. on the back too much but I think this man shows that the last 8 years weren't as bad as they could have been . He's managed to work his way up to owning a small business where he will make $250K + a year .
I just can't stop thinking about how bad of shape we'd be in if Gore would have won in 2000 .

Sure its bullshit.
There are 188,000 "small businesses" in this country making 250+K a year.
Now, I have two small business that generate a few K a year for me. Part-time shit that really needs no effort from me. I have one small business that generates 7 figures and employs roughly 16-20 people depending on the time of the year and shit.
Now, start counting up all those small businesses the home moms have like Southern Living, Pampered Chef, etc. and of course the majority of small business don't make 250K a year.
But, you can also take the majority of those small businesses and wipe them out and it will be smaller than a blip in the GDP.
Hell, I could lose 2 out of 3 of my businesses and it wouldn't be a blip to me.

Here's how this year was supposed to play out, cost were fairly stable I had conservative growth plans in place and we would have reached a point where we had absorbed last years expansions and our profit woul have been very good (to the point I was going to buy a new truck and a z06).
As it happened, we still grew at roughly 18% but our cost grew by almost 40%. So as a result I've sacrificed and stayed in my old truck and only bought a mustang. I'm only one man, how much do they want me to sacrifice???
Oh, and I put off construction on a new house.

The new trend toward taxation based on revenue instead of income is troubling.
The state of texas has a new business tax that hit us hard this year (coming from the new law that reduces personal property taxes but increases business taxes). I believe it is also based on revenue. Our managing partner was researching the new law, and asked around and found out about a guy that had a net loss for the year, but still had to pay the damn tax anyway.
We would also be subject to the new obama tax. I can tell you that we would have layoffs if we had to pay it.

Not true, counties do not regulate building codes, states do (there are some odd exceptions), he is actually working under a licensed plumber which is legal. Calling him 'Joe the Helper' or 'Joe the Apprentice Plumber' might have been more fitting, but not as catchy.

Absolutely. Their definition of a small business is anyone who files a form that shows business income with the IRS.
What is important is that even with Obama's 95% number in the mix, he will be raising taxes on something like 99% of the small business income base in the country. That is what he is not saying, that the %5 of entities he is going to raise taxes on generate almost all of the income.
Fucking crooked ass mother fucker.

HOLLAND, Ohio (AP) — Joe the Plumber said Thursday he doesn't have a license and doesn't need one. Joe Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, the nickname Republican John McCain bestowed on him during Wednesday's presidential debate, said he works for a small plumbing company that does residential work. Because he works for someone else, he doesn't need a license, he said.
But the county Wurzelbacher and his employer live in, Lucas County, requires plumbers to have licenses. Neither Wurzelbacher nor his employer are licensed there, said Cheryl Schimming of Lucas County Building Regulations, which handles plumber licenses in parts of the county outside Toledo.
Wurzelbacher, who voted in the Republican primary and indicated he backed McCain, was cited by the GOP presidential candidate as an example of someone who wants to buy a plumbing business but would be hurt by Democrat Barack Obama's tax plans. Wurzelbacher said he was surprised that his name was mentioned so many other times.
"That bothered me. I wished that they had talked more about issues that are important to Americans," he told reporters gathered outside his home.
Wurzelbacher, 34, said he doesn't have a good plan put together on how he would buy Newell Plumbing and Heating in nearby Toledo.
He said the business consists of owner Al Newell and him. Wurzelbacher said he's worked there for six years and that the two have talked about his taking it over at some point.
"There's a lot I've got to learn," he said.
Wurzelbacher said he started his day with an early morning workout and came back to his suburban Toledo home to do live interviews with TV networks.
Reporters camped out by his house overnight and by midmorning there were 21 people on his driveway surrounding him, holding cameras and notebooks.
Wurzelbacher said he's feeling overwhelmed.
"I'm kind of like Britney Spears having a headache. Everybody wants to know about it," he joked.
In Toledo on Sunday, Wurzelbacher told Obama that he was preparing to buy the plumbing company, which earns more than $250,000 a year, and said: "Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?"
Obama said that under his proposal taxes on any revenue from $250,000 on down would stay the same, but that amounts above that level would be subject to a 39 percent tax, instead of the current 36 percent rate.
Wurzelbacher said Obama's tax plan wouldn't affect him right now, because he doesn't make $250,000. "But I hope someday I'll make that," he said.
"If you believed (Obama), I'd be receiving his tax cuts," Wurzelbacher said. "But I don't look at it that way. He'd still be hurting others."
As he leaned against the Dodge Durango SUV parked in his driveway Thursday morning, Wurzelbacher indicated to reporters who crowded around that he was a conservative, a fan of the military and McCain. He said meeting McCain would be an honor but said he hadn't been contacted by the Republican campaign.
Still, the plumber wouldn't say who he was voting for and brushed off a question about whether he could influence the election or other voters.
"I don't have a lot of pull. It's not like I'm Matt Damon," Wurzelbacher said.
"I just hope I'm not making too much of a fool of myself," he added.

Okay... number one I said there are odd exceptions. (insert "flipping you off smiley" here), number two I'd like a few more details of his boss not having a license. Could be it recently expired, maybe not.
Also, it could be his boss contacts out their labor to other plumbing companies. I was in the plumbing industry for 16 years, I don't see Joe's boss pulling permits and getting inspections without a plumbing license unless they are working under someone else's license.

That's what I was thinking when obama's "how many plumbers do you know making 250k a year!? "comback was met with applause. I found it amazing that a statement I found incredibly insulting and incorrect (Both of the owners of the two plumbing companies I know of run more than 250k a year), was treated like some knock knock joke at his rally.

I think many in here are missing the point of Joe the Plumber. You can pick apart his story, business, occupation. But you would miss the fundamental meaning of this. Mark Levin was correct in showing that he exemplifies the difference in economic and government principles between the 2 candidates.
(disclaimer - I am about to put words into people's mouths. I am just trying to open this up to a bigger discussion, less about Joe and more about the candidate's ideas. I am not trying to slant either view but put forth their best.)
Obama - Believes if a Joe makes over $250,000 he can afford to make a bigger 'investment' in the country that has given him so much. He won't miss the 1-2% more that he'll pay. Obama would happily pay a little more because he believes the gov. while flawed will use that money for the better good. Whether that is education, social programs, etc. Obama believes that society gets better collectively. (You raise the average by improving the lowest. Mathmatically correct)
McCain - Believes if Joe makes over $250,000 he shouldn't have to fund government programs. The US has given Joe the chance to improve his life but Joe has seized that opportunity. Joe will help the US most by employing citizens and supporting things he chooses with his money. McCain that the society will get better individually, with more people like Joe. (You raise the average by making the top numbers higher, also mathmatically correct)
Now my opinion - If you believe both men to be more than the caricature we are fed every day. Both men have an idea. Both ideas, in perfect form, would work. But the world is not perfect. Plenty of gov. spending is wasteful and doesn't work and it is naive to think the gov. as the answer to every question. There are some people who really need gov. help and the private/charity/church sector cannot provide for everything. Now the question is where do you fall in line? Can those high on the income scale afford to 'help'? Why does it have to be a 'redistribution of wealth', we should all pay equally?
That is what IMO 'Joe the Plumber' is about now. In the future I hope 'Joe the Plumber' means an honest discussion of how we can meet in the middle and improve the average by both improving the bottom and raising the top.

McCain's plan, as well as most conservatives believe, you must actually work for success, and make an effort to better yourself. It will not be handed to you for free. Now that you have shown you can be successful lets help you out by giving incentives. With these incentives you now can also give better raises, spend more money on luxuries, put it in savings, and investments, distribute YOUR money, the way YOU deem it should be spent.
Obama's plan, and most socialists believe that the people that bust ass to make a fortune are not going to miss the extra money so lets take it from them and give it to the people that are too fucking lazy to do anything for themselves. Lets make sure that they do not starve, lets make sure they have health care. To receive this, what do they have to do? NOTHING! Sit on your ass, complain about being oppressed, complain that you dont have anything, but at the same time dont do a fucking thing about it because given your buddy wins the election, you will not have too....

The key issue here is that Obama's plan is to take money from successful, hardworking, industrous people and hand it over to people that have done nothing to earn it.
At what point do people just decide it's not worth it to be successful, and instead stick around for their handout too?

He means 'gross' because Obama keeps saying 'revenue' which is the total of money brought in, prior to deductions, taxes, costs, etc.
And in regards to one of your previous point, it isn't any of Obama's business or right to tell me that I'm privileged so I should be willing to take one for the team.

In the 'Joe the Plumber' interview Obama says the word revenue once. He uses words like income/paycheck/make/earn at least 8 times (I stopped counting on these.) Joe brings up buying a truck for the business but the rest of his comments seem to be on his income. The figures Obama uses in the interview are from his tax plan on personal income. The percentages for the top brackets. Top earners starting at $250,000. And $250,000 being the point where the taxpayer begins to pay more. (But we are starting to get away from the point.)
Back to the point, I can understand your issue on my original post.

The only talking point is the answer Obama gave. Giving money to people that didn't earn it is always wrong unless it's given voluntarily. It can only promote more people to work less.
Obama's supposed birth state Hawaii today stopped a state run health care plan for children because everyone stopped paying for medical care.
Hawaii ending universal child health care
Hawaii is dropping the only state universal child health care program in the country just seven months after it launched.
Gov. Linda Lingle's administration cited budget shortfalls and other available health care options for eliminating funding for the program. A state official said families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.
"People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it so they could get it for free," said Dr. Kenny Fink, the administrator for Med-QUEST at the Department of Human Services. "I don't believe that was the intent of the program."

It is off topic, but my aunt told me of another way they want to tax us. They want to tax home owners, for the equity gap between what they pay, and what the renting market is like. Example: You have a home that you paid off 5 years ago, and the home is worth $200k. Homes that are worth $200k, rent for about $2500 a month. That $2500 is now considered income, and you have to pay taxes on it.
My aunt said Clinton tried to get it passed, and Obama will want it passed, because it will make it "fair" for people who can't buy homes.

it's a group of electrical contractors called the "IEC"..."Independent Electrical Contractors". ...i'm sure that they're involving other business owners as well, as this affects every business out there. here is a letter that i received from the iec treasurer:
Dear IEC of Texas Contractor Member:
How did you like paying the Margin Tax on June 15th?
The Margin Tax, which is a newly created tax to replace the old Franchise Tax, is a gross receipts-based tax enacted to provide “significant property tax relief and meaningful tax reform.” The new Margin Tax will lead to state tax increases for some electrical contractors of 200, 600, even 1,000 percent.
Electrical Contractors are a reasonable bunch of business owners. They do not expect to get away with paying fewer taxes than others; they understand they must pay their fair share and they don’t use loopholes and accounting gimmicks to avoid paying their taxes. The electrical industry understood the need of the State of Texas to revise the franchise tax to assure no entity is exempt, but the results should be reasonable and equitable. No business should owe any tax if it is not profitable or the tax would create a deficit for the business. Neither of which exists with the new Margin Tax. When the tax burden on some of our electrical contractors begins to weigh so heavily that they must consider going out of business, we MUST re-examine things
It is time for the electrical industry to come together and fight for reforms to this burdensome tax. The Independent Electrical Contractors of Texas is leading this fight for reforms for the electrical industry by jointly forming a coalition with like-minded state business organizations who are joining forces to advance a legislative agenda that will make the new Texas Margin Tax less onerous on small business owners across the state. The Texas Business Tax Coalition founding members include: the National Federation of Independent Business of Texas (NFIB), the Independent Electrical Contractors of Texas, the Air Conditioning Contractors of American Texas Chapter, the Associated Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Texas and the Texas Courier & Logistics Association. This new Coalition is calling for a handful of reforms that will significantly reduce the impact of this tax on the business owner.
We must keep moving forward in preparation for the 2009 Legislative Session where apprentice education and the fight for reforms to the Margin Tax are our priorities. I need your help. There are more than 450 contractor members in the IEC of Texas - if every contractor makes a generous contribution to the IEC of Texas PAC, WE will have an impact on the upcoming elections in November.
Remember, Texas law prohibits contributions from corporate funds, so your donation needs to be from personal funds. Please send you personal check TODAY to:
IEC of Texas PAC

Joe the Plumber,' Obama Tax-Plan Critic, Owes Taxes
Ryan J. Donmoyer Ryan J. Donmoyer – Thu Oct 16, 6:17 pm ET
``Joe the plumber,'' the Toledo, Ohio, man whose complaints about Barack Obama's tax plan were highlighted by John McCain in the final presidential debate, owes the state of Ohio almost $1,200 in back income taxes.
According to records on file with the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, the state filed a tax lien against Samuel J. Wurzelbacher for $1,182.98 on Jan. 26, 2007, that is still active.
Wurzelbacher was thrust into the national spotlight this week when he told Obama he worried that the Illinois senator's proposals to roll back Bush administration tax breaks for Americans earning more than $250,000 would prevent him from buying a plumbing business that would earn between $250,000 and $280,000 a year.
McCain, an Arizona Republican senator, pointed to the exchange during the debate last night when he turned to the camera and said, ``I will not stand for a tax increase on small- business income.'' Directly criticizing Obama, he added, ``what you want to do to `Joe the plumber' and millions more like him is have their taxes increased and not be able to realize the American dream of owning their own business.''
Today, at a rally in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, McCain said ``the real winner last night was `Joe the plumber.'''
On Oct. 12, as Obama was campaigning door-to-door in suburban Toledo, Wurzelbacher confronted the Democratic presidential nominee about his tax plan.
`American Dream'
``Do you believe in the American dream?'' Wurzelbacher asked before asking about the tax increase. ``I'm being taxed more and more for fulfilling the American dream.''
Wurzelbacher's home telephone number is unlisted, and efforts to reach him by calling his neighbors and family were unsuccessful. Attempts to reach Wurzelbacher at the plumbing company where he works were also unsuccessful. The address on the lien and other records for him matched the address published by the Toledo Blade, which also noted the lien.
Wurzelbacher told ABC's ``Good Morning America'' program today that high earners shouldn't be ``penalized for being successful.''
The state of Ohio places a lien on real property after several steps to try to collect a tax debt, according to John Kohlstrand, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Taxation who said he couldn't discuss any specific case.
Delinquency Notice
If a delinquency notice goes unheeded, the Department of Taxation issues a billing notice, Kohlstrand said. If that is ignored, a more formal assessment notice is sent. Failing to appeal an assessment or losing an appeal puts the debt into the hands of the state attorney general for collection. The attorney general typically sends a collection notice and simultaneously files a lien.
``The taxpayers may not necessarily know about the lien,'' Kohlstrand said, although they would receive other notices.
In Wurzelbacher's case, the lien indicated that the notice was sent to a previous address in Toledo.
Ray Ann Estep, section chief for revenue-recovery services for the Ohio attorney general, said Wurzelbacher's lien was filed six months after the Department of Taxation certified the debt for collection.
``Unfortunately, sometimes people don't resolve their debts as quickly as we would like them to,'' she said.
Obama's Plan
In addition to tax credits and a proposal that would allow Wurzelbacher to avoid paying capital-gains taxes if he ever sold the business he wants to acquire for a profit, Obama has proposed allowing the top two tax rates of 33 percent and 35 percent to revert to what they were during the Clinton administration, or 36 percent and 39.6 percent, respectively.
In 2007, the 33 percent bracket applied to taxable income exceeding $195,851.
Under Obama's proposal, Wurzelbacher would face about $900 more in taxes if he netted $280,000 of income from his new business and had to pay an extra 3 percentage points on the amount over $195,851, said Gerald Prante, a senior economist at the Tax Foundation, a Washington research group that is examining both candidates' plans.
``His average tax burden, the final bill he pays to the IRS isn't going to go up much if he's just making $280,000 a year,'' Prante said. He would face higher marginal tax costs to expand the business beyond that, he said.
Not Taxable Income
It's far more likely that the $280,000 Wurzelbacher told Obama he'd earn would be in the form of gross receipts and not taxable income, said Steven Bankler, a certified public accountant in San Antonio, who counts plumbers and other trade professionals as his clients.
According to an analysis by Dun & Bradstreet on Wurzelbacher's employer, A. W. Newell Corp., the plumbing and heating contractor has annual sales of $510,000.
If Wurzelbacher bought the company, by the time he took proper business deductions, Bankler said, he'd be left with between $150,000 and $200,000 in taxable income and wouldn't be affected by Obama's proposed increase in the top rates.
Wurzelbacher might eventually have to pay more employment taxes under Obama's plan to impose a rate of between 2 percent and 4 percent on wages over $250,000, Bankler said, but Obama has said that change wouldn't take effect for a decade.
Wurzelbacher doesn't have a plumber's license and isn't registered as a plumber in Ohio, the Toledo Blade reported on its Web site today. His employer has a state plumbing license, the newspaper said.
Before living in Ohio, Wurzelbacher was a resident of Mesa, Arizona, in McCain's home state, according to property records.

Daisy, instead of trying to demean the plumber, why do you not focus on what Obama said? It doesn't matter who it was said too, but what he said. It showed a socialistic view of whats to come."Share the wealth"...
So Joe the Plumber can't even afford to pay the taxes he already owes....
