I was wondering if anybody in the computer section might be able to answer a question about the AT&T air cards? I have seen a lot of them on the net, and some even on Ebay that say they are unlocked? What would be the advantage of having an unlocked air card? They dont run on sims do they?

They do have sim cards you put in. having it unlocked means you can use it on like tmob or att.

Just wait for Sprint Xohm's WiMax to launch near the end of the year. 6-8Mpbs down, 2-4Mbps up. Most of the core of DFW will be covered at that point. If you live in the sticks, it might be a little longer for coverage.

Seen the new unit you are talking about. When they were testing a new tower in Hulen, for the new band they were getting 11Mbps.

Look for it in DFW around the end of the year. I can tell you it's very nice for mobile broadband. It probably won't be sold under the Sprint name but Clearwire by that time. We're seeing fantastic speeds down here.

I do believe I'll be on board then. :) That sounds like a pretty nice deal! I would need the laptop and desktop package.

Is the SIM (on the wireless cards that do happen to have them.) use the same kind of sim as as our phones do?

pardon my ignorance, but what are the ramifications of swapping the phone SIM to the air card?

Even if you purchase one of the unlimited packages? I know it's corny, but you gotta crawl before you walk with this stuff, even if I gotta take some hazing along the way. :o

What cell phone do you have? If its a PDA type, you can tether with it and use that as an aircard.

I dont have a PDA type, I have a Sliver. BUT my contract is currently up for renewal so Im all ears for solutions. What exactly would I need to do? AND is there a way to make it happen with paying hundreds per month?
