anyone have any information about this? i read a "rumor" on google they were making one
I could see potential in a sequel, but a prequel? Seems like it would be boring until the virus jumped.

i think it could be pretty good to see exactly how everything went down- all the way back to the research to find the cure for cancer

I think it'd be a good movie....I'd prefer the prequel over the sequel

Read something about this on Yahoo the other day....
Will Smith will reprise his role as Robert Neville, and the prequel will take place a short time before, during and after the massive outbreak.
Remember his flashback of the helicopters taking off, and that one being brought down by a pack of those vampire/virus victim things.
I think it's a pretty good idea.

I got the impression that the one being brought down wasn't by the infected but instead by panicking people (who weren't sick yet) trying in desperation to get off the island. To me, that has more dramatic punch to it.

I am legend sucked in the first place. They should have stuck more to the book. Prequel might be interesting, but i doubt it.

Sequel?
The protagonist, who was also the aforementioned legend, was killed.
Doesn't that kinda put an end to the story line?

Not at all. It put an end to his character, but not to the story itself. Not by a longshot. It's not like he died and then the world blew up and there was nothing else left to take place. Granted, this particular movie was all about him, and therefore a sequel may be doomed without Will Smith. As far as the world being full of the infected and a few survivors working to overcome the virus, that story has (potentially) just begun.

not everyone sees the alternate ending, therefore they can't use it for the basis of a sequel

LOL! I thought the alternate ending was pretty silly with the infected couple practically making out in the lab.

x2..I don't buy into an overpaid actor and mediocore computer graphics. Hell they made all the infected look the same.
28 weeks later was more believable and a much better movie. By watching this movie first, it pretty much ruined "I am Legend".

It's interesting to see such varied opinions. To me, Will Smith did a fantastic job and I Am Legend kicked ass. Some of the computer graphics were too obvious. I got the idea that the infected were supposed to look the same. I didn't really care for 28 Weeks Later all that much, and felt like that movie had way too many similarities with all the other played out zombie formula flicks.
Different strokes for different folks.
EDIT: Wait... did you say "believable"? LOL!

They were not zombie flicks they were rage virus flix. A zombie is dead.
Oh sweet merciful Jesus I can't believe anyone would want them to shit on the book any more than they already did. A prequel, well maybe. A sequel? Please God, no. Hopefully if they make it, it will end up with some other name that has nothing to do with the book or the movie. Return of the Living Dead part 37 or some shit.

True, true. It still seemed like a movie I'd seen several times over when I watched it for the first time.

I'm glad I didn't read the book. I didn't have any expectations for this movie to stick to any particular story to which I'd already been exposed.

But Robert Neville was "legend."
An I Am Legend sequel without Robert Neville would be comparable to "Rambo 7... the story of a cambodian village boy." or "Termimator 5, the story of John Connor."

I liked the movie and story even though I have not have read the book before. It's the rare movie that lives up to the book it's based on. I think the only movie in recent times that has been able to accomplish that was the LOTR trilogy.
I thought the CGI was overdone in some points and less might have been better. Example, I thought the CGI was great for creating the look of NYC but thought it was overdone in some of the close ups of the infected. I also thought the movie was rushed and would have like to see more of a build up of how things got started up until the point where Neville has been living in the city for several years by himself.
I'd see a prequel, I would go see a sequel. I like the horror genre and "zombie" movies in general. You can't really compare it to 28 Days/Weeks Later or the remake of Dawn of the Dead because there really not the same. I do like the fact that things from the movies of the 60's through the 90's were the "creatures" were slow and easily out ran. Watching the opening sequence of 28 Weeks Later were the people are huddled up in the house and get attacked and that one guy is running for his life scared the shit out of me. No way my fat ass would have survived that

LOL. I see what you're saying. They may have to change the name. That's not too uncommon. The difference in this movie and movies like Rambo and Terminator are that those stories depend completely on the main character. While the title and the focus of this movie was all about him, I was left wanting to know what happened afterward. Outside of NYC and outside of Neville's world, there's a lot more story to tell.

I completely agree with the evil one. I thought the movie was great and the book was very good too. I would see the prequel, but I wish the movie had been 30 mins longer (more build up, more background on the virus, more info on the characters, etc.), it would have been better.

Not meaning to hijack this thread...but a real quick one here. At the end of "The Hulk" when Downey Jr. made his cameo...does this lead everyone else to think the next movie will be something like Hulk vs. Iron Man? Or is just me?

I guess I can see where a prequel could be pretty cool if most of it took place after the virus jumped and started infecting people.

Make it kind of the oposite of what the infected were doing in the first film. The infected figured out a way to get to him. In the Prequel the non-infected have to learn to stay away from them. I wanted to know why the sun burned them, and why Neville never had flashbangs with him. :D

He just avoided being out after dark completely. He knew that if he stayed out after dark, he'd have to stay out all night until the sun came up or they'd follow him home. When he did go out that night, he was on a suicide mission.

I was curious why, with all the practical knowledge he seemed to possess, as far as explosives and pyro type shit.....why he never tried to bring any of those building down. Obviously a lot of those big buildings in town housed a shitload of the infected. Maybe make a carbomb, send into a building in the middle of town....
Thats just what was running through my head while watching the movie, surely a collapsing building would take out a large number of those nasty fuckers.

Right On.
If I had all the explosives/pyro knowledge that Robert Neville seemed to possess, i'm pretty sure i would. Being a philanthropist and trying to bring about a salvation for an infected humanity is one thing.....but the patients trying to eat you is another.
