Am getting ready to do this in my attached garage and wanted to go with Sherwin Williams or other specialized brand.
Did someone have the hookup on Sherwin Williams brand industrial coatings? Looking for ArmorSeal 750HS or 1000HS or even Tileclad.

You can use the following account for a discount but it will not be much if you get the contractor pack.
Jose Barraza
The account is based out of Arlington in the cooper store.
He was my painter and I still use it successfully.

i could play a mean trick on you and you could go pick up some of the epoxy we use, but since it dries in 20-23 minutes after you mix in the resin it wouldn't be all that funny.

great, thanks for the responses and PM's.
Wow Grape - that must be some seriously hot stuff with such a short work life. What product is that? Same stuff that was used in the Phoneix garage? Those floors looked slick.

You could always just add ice to the epoxy as you spread it that will increase the cure time and allow you to spread it.
Tricky but can be done.
What brand epoxy are you using? Wolverine or some other?

it's neogard and valspar is mainly what we use, devoe sells a product that is made by valspar that is exactly the same just 3 times the price. On hot days we will will actually stage our 3 gallon kits in a kiddie pool full of ice just for insurance.

...and I think it came out pretty decent. I used the ArmorSeal high solids product from Sherwin Williams. Floor looked so good I put base boards down. Whoever had this house built must have been a car guy. They had speaker and CAT5 lines run for a wall audio control already.

Looks NICE! :D I used the H & C Shield-Crete (http://www.hcconcrete.com/products/shield-crete-epoxy/garage-floor-coating/index.jsp) and I got it from Sherwin Williams. I even put the Clear Glaze to help the Flakes I sprinkled over the paint while I rolled it on. So far no hot tire pick up and cleans up with a mop like a breeze. Hell, the whole neighborhood wanted to do theirs after they seen mine. :D

I put the Home Depot selling one (cant remember the brand) and I added the sprinkles for slip resistance. But, I was still very unhappy on how slippery it was when it was done. You had to be VERY careful on this.
How is this working out for you? It is the sole reason I have not done it to the new garage!

yes, it becomes a big slip-n-slide when wet. I don't put in the flecks or the texture additive. We dont wash cars in there so its rare that the floor gets wet.
I never had a problem with tire lift when I used ArmorSeal previously but we weren't driving cars in hot off the street either. This will be a test for the product and my slab prep.
Armorseal costs more than I want to spend on my larger shop floor (~1200 sqft) I am thinking on using their water-based ShieldCrete product for it.

Loved my Shield Crete......Put in the sand with the paint for the slip resistance then added the flakes after I painted a section at a time......after it cured for a day then I coated it with the clear glaze and it looks awesome. I spent about $600 to do my 2.5 garage and patio.

Got any pics of that? Mine would have come out more glossy if I had sprayed it and am considering spraying my detached garage. You can still see roller marks in it. I dont know if a better nap roller would have helped or not. Lots of reports online of people having the same results with the product.

you still have to back roll when you spray because of the overlap marks.........to get rid of roller marks and the texture they leave you need a self leveling product.

Self leveling puts me into another class of products though right? From what I read, self-leveling is quite a bit more expensive and requires more paint per sqft then the others. That's probably the way to go for that perfect pro-grade finish you spread with a trowel.
You get what you pay for though and ultimately it will be budget that dictates what I will put down in my larger detached garage.
Got any surplus self leveling coatings laying around? :D

no it actually takes less product to cover cause it's all 100% solids which means no odor and no shrinking which is what causes the light spots in 60-70% solids coatings. Our self leveling stuff isn't very thick you still can't go more than 8-12 mills per coat without outgassing which are the little bubbles that come up cause of trapped air.
Our stuff is roughly $40-50 per gallon my cost and it's available in downtown dallas at the jones blair plant. But after you squegee it out you still have a person rolling, and then about 10 minutes later we have another person rolling with a spike roller to get the air out of it.

Yeah, this was in our old house and the dryer vented into the garage, so in the cold weather, it would condense slightly and it was an icerink.... that is even with the anti-slip flakes, but no sand in the coating.
In our new house, I dont think this would happen since it has a proper vent... lets see how it works out.

You will make Dorothy Hamill jealous, if you spill transmission fluid on that floor... ;) Slicker than owl-shit.

hey mike, how much did it cost you and how long did it take?

I probably had 8 hours total in the prep and spread it out over the course of a week or so. Did a lot of scraping, scrubbing, washing etc. Final prep was a good washing and rinsing followed by a mild muriatic acid etch. I let the slab dry a week before I applied the product.
I had the ArmorSeal tinted to match the wall color. Two kits (four activated gallons) cost ~$325. 1 kit nearly covered the garage floor. I recoated after 48 hrs. It is VERY thick and I dont see how you could avoid the roller marks. Maybe a heavier nap roller? It isnt like rolling latex, I should hve done more research before I applied it. Still came out ok.

I hope it will look this good down the road as we only park our cars there. The real work goes on in my shop across the driveway there.
