The inside unit (3.5 ton) drip pan was over flowing last night. It had alot of sludge in it, so I cleaned it out. The unit has a clear rubber hose that runs from the drip pan, to the left of the unit, to a pvc pipe(the drain). The hose was somewhat kinked from the angles it was bending. This has happend before, so I was thinking the drip pan may not be tilted enough to drain the water. Last night around 9:00 pm, I took the rubber hose and put it in a 2.5 gal can, to see if it was draining proper. This morning around 10:00 am it was over flowing. Now I know the drip pan is tilted correctly.lol But, should it condensate that much in 13hrs?

the amount of condensation is directly relative to the humidity...there is nothing you can do to change how much condensation is generated...

The only thing you can do is make absolutely sure that the drain pan is tilted correctly and the drain is not kinked or blocked.

keep in mind that if you continue to have this issue and it overflows onto insulation and drywall, then you will be forced to replace some sheetrock and the wet insulation to prevent the growth of mold.

You might check the other end of the pipe Chad. My a/c drain Ts into the sink drain in a bathroom after the P trap. Gross green/black moss looking crap would accumulate in the sink drain line and would clog the condensate line coming from the a/c. After this happened several times I removed the p trap and vent that was at the top of the a/c drain line, and this hasn't happened since. Best I can figure pollen/spores/something was getting into the line via the vent and was brewing in the upper P trap, eventually resulting in the crap accumuating at the bottom of the line in the sink drain.

I checked with a friend of mine that use to run an ac company. He said it should drip about a pint an hour. The sludge was most likely insulation on the inside of the unit. I think everything is ok now.

Yeah. They make bleach tabs to clean that shit up.

I would run it in pvc.
