Are you sure they are Blackwater? Look more like EODT. I worked with a guy a few months ago that did that same mission this guy had and was an EODT dude. Still real fun shit. There is nothing like roaming the badlands of the world and living to tell about it. Going on 3 years myself.

How the fuck do you deal with it other than IV's and a water hose jammed up your ass?!

They've touched 150 a few times, but it all feels the same. It makes life hard waking up over 100 and staying mostly in the 120's throughout the day. It only peaks like what you saw for a short time, though. I still get a pretty good burn with the heaviest of sunblocks. I've noticed more moles and freckles these last few years as well. If an incoming rocket doesn't get me, skin cancer will definately do so. Most indiginous life (human and animal) work around the sun during these harsh months. They usually start their days @ 8pm and finish around midnight. Not as much gets done than say, fall or winter, but we don't get much done working during the day either. We try to stick to the military's heat/work regimine. Any temeratue beyond 125 is a work 10/rest 50 hour.

I think the highest temp on record was set somwhere in the Sahara at 168 or something. I could be wrong.

I've got calibrated thermometers AND military Meteorologists that say otherwise.

But who is going to argue with Ask Yahoo?

You should not even click link unless you have recent combat missions in Iraq or Afghanistan serving in the US Military. Not saying they do not hire people that have never served or that never left their base when they were deployed. They have so many applicants they can afford to be choosey. SF, Recon, Rangers, Seals, STAA, etc are shoe ins and are beating down BW's doors for jobs that pay between $500-700 a day.

I know of three people (two women) who were hired by BW without any prior military or law enforcement.

But were they operators? I have met a lot of DynCorp guys and gals that were just like the warehousmen and operations people and lots of mechanics. I am sure that BW has the same. Now I know that they will hire medics that have no LEO or Military background in a heartbeat. The medic at our camp just left for EODT a month ago. We don't see too many BW here mostly Dyncorp and the smaller guys like Four Horsemen.

Keep in mind BW also hires people for other jobs, not just the door kicker positions. they have a nice aviation side . i have a few buddies over there right now with them working on Helo's

Are you refering to their up-armors? Anyone that has driven civilian SUVs that have been up-armored know that the Fords hold up so much better once you double the weight of the truck with armor plates, kevlar and armor glass.

The Chevy's are junk. The frames are crap and bend all over the place. Plus the Ford Excursions and F350-550 are Diesels and much more forgiving of the shitty fuel quality. In the gas motor GMs we had to have the plugs cleaned or replaced every other month due to octane ratings in the 60-70s.

I have an Excursion now and it will haul some serious balls even at 15,000 lbs. The only downfall to the Fords is after they are up armored the A/C systems go to shit and the GMs hold up. I would rather feel safer and hot then ride in the Suburbans and be cool.

Ford does not supply the vehicles they are purchased by up armoring companies and taken apart and rebuilt. If they could only figure out that factory shocks and springs will not work at 13,000-18,000 lbs and in this terrain.

Right. All our Tahoes and Suburbans have trannies constantly going out. We have Toyota Land Cruisers and Excursions.

Those toyota trucks are nice but when it gets cold out (not that you guys would know about that) the deisel turns to gel and glogs up in the fuel filters. But they are still great running most of the year. Very solid. Give me the Excursion anyday of the week though.

come on man, free fuel is like free food out here. My monthly expenses can be funded with $100 and that is for cell minutes. So I don't mind burning up free diesel in the big ass excursion 4wd. Actually when I was doing missions in Kabul my Excursion was getting twice the mpg that the GMs were.

A lot of those guys, like me do it for the adventure, not just the money. The money is a big plus as I wouldn't do it for less but I enjoy the experience of living in Afghanistan for going on 3 years now. I can tell you that 99% of the people that I went to high school wiht only wish their life was as exciting as mine is.

Blackwater is still on probation, but they're not going anywhere.

Blackwater, Triple Canopy, Dyncorp, EODT, SOC, I think Wolfpack is still out here, and a few other little companies. That's just the ones that hold those armed security jobs. There tons of other companies that do other things, though.
