Looking to make my home system alittle better. Shit I'm running a Technics receiver now that is like 7-8 years old. One of the inputs is bad. And I have sony speakers that are like 10 years old. Now I do have a sony 10inch sub that sounds alright. But its to 10 years old.

I'm looking at replacing it all. All this stuff I can just throw in my bedroom or the living room. All the new stuff is going in a spare room I have where everything is right now. Now the room is not that big at all. Not for sure if that makes a different.

I already have my budget TV, its a 61inch Samsung dlp slim depth. Its just fine, all I need for it is a higher stand.

So hit me up with some ideas

Good option on the speakers. I'll put in my 2cents with my usual Axiom entry elevel selection:
Axiom Epic Midi (http://www.axiomaudio.com/epicmidi125.html)

Online only, so if you end up being interested in Axiom let me know and you can stop by and listen.

7.1 IMHO is a waste.

unless you REALLY know what to look for, most people can't tell the difference.

musclestang, Polk and Yahmaha just teamed up and put out an awesome HTIB. (home theater in a box) Yahmaha reciever and DVD player with upconv. Polk audio RM series satellites and a 12" DSWPRO sub. go to fry's and ask about it.

You want decent stuff on a budget. Parts Express is the place to check out.

I've bought stuff from these guys. Good prices on budget stuff and great prices on cables. http://www.partsexpress.com/

I was just checking out their selection of 6 1/2's. Which of these do you suggest?

Tang Band
Dynavox
Pyle Pro
Pyramid
Goldwood

Once I select a set of components, I then have to select a cabinet? Are you being serious?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. I said that parts express was budget equipment. It's a DIY type of distributor. If you are looking for $10,000 speakers then look elsewhere. If you are looking for cheap satellite speaker packages or subs then you've arrived at the right place.

If you can bump your budget up by another $200, this is an absolute SMOKING deal! AV123 is a little kown company that produces some outstanding products.

Here is a deal from them for a complete 5.1 system, towers, center, bookshelves for the rear, and a receiver that supports all new audio formats and does1080p upscaling. All for $1699

All you would need is a sub.

What "name brand" receiver is it? Seems a little shady.

I have to say, for those on a budget, I am pretty happy with my Onkyo HTIB stuff. It's allowed me to do 7.1 in three rooms of the house and still stay under $1500 total. Two of the three receivers do HDMI, one of which is pass-through, but the other is full HD processing for video and audio, does 1080p upscaling, and supports all of the latest HD audio formats. It even has on-screen display. Of course they came with subs and everything. Heck, two of them even came with Ipod docks. Not bad for cheap stuff!

I've got 3, and they were all HTIBs. I have the s6100, s5100, and I'm not exactly sure what the oldest one is. I'll do a little research and find out...

Edit: I believe the S6100 came with the 606, and the 5100 came with the 506. Still not sure about the oldest setup, as I have had it now for a couple of years.
