I want to put together a group of floor cabinets for our kitchen island. Unfinished is ok, and the cabinets from Lowes would be fine but are a bit pricey. Where are the good deals to be had?
I have checked Builders Surplus a while back and found they aren't much cheaper than retail. I seem to recall a cabinet warehouse in Balch Springs or Seagoville somewhere that had wholesale pricing. Anyone know the name of the place or if its still there?

I'd be interested in knowing that too. However I want to find good quality at the lowest possible price. Something where the carcass is made of plywood instead of particle board.
I'm seriously considering building my own. Its been a while since I've built cabinets but I've got all the tools. I just need the lumber.

Beavis, Have you checked the surplus store right there in Lake Dallas. A friend of ours bought cabinents for their island and said they got a great deal.

Yea, I'm not very impressed. Their prices and selection aren't that great. Seconds and Surplus was better but most of the stuff I saw was particle board.

I know people rip on IKEA and it is deserved for some of their stuff, but their kitchen cabinets are very good quality. They get very good ratings on consumer reports and have a good warantee. Plus they are very easy to install, have a good selection of fronts, and are very reasonable. We're in the middle of a kitchen renovation and are using them, and have been very happy.
They have a selection of fronts from laminate to solid oak. The frames are particle board, but that really doesn't affect much. Plus they are fully modular so you can very easily customize the design.

Yup - I would like good quality cabinets as well but no way do I have the time to build them from scratch. Is easier to screw floor cabinets together, add wine rack, built-in fridge, glass door panes, rope corners, granite countertop. etc
Still looking for that warehouse in Balch Springs if anyone knows it. I am good with Ikeas stuff but its a bit of a drive for us.

We used cabinet specialties out of Waxahachie. Reasonable priced and nice designs. But they were not fast took 15 days to get them designed and made. Ryan the owners son was our salesman

Was that Cabinet Specialties or Cabinet Specialists?

15 days isn't bad for custom cabinets. However looking at their website I saw a picture of some of their work. It looks like the carcass is particle board. But I'll give them a call and check.. Thanks for the heads up...
you can check the habitat for humanity stores. i volunteer when they build homes but they also have stores where they sell material. The material they use are donated from home improvement stores.

That's who I use in all my houses. I've found none better, all things considered.

Yes that was the correct company.
They can do particle board which is done well and then they have solid 10 ply birch or you can go with outdoor materials but that must be painted.
