I have HD radio and it wasn't as huge of a difference as I expected. In my ride it just sounds like more treble. CDs still sound much better. I don't listen to the extra channels much. But keep in mind, that's coming from someone who has Sirius and doesn't listen to it much either. I'm a CD junkie.

More bass.
More treble.
More channels-Some are different genres of music like 100.3HD2 The Swing or The Oasis on 107.5HD2.
The ticket on 99.5HD2 is crystal clear day or night.

I still prefer Sirius to anything on HD.

I think so since there are far more programming options and no commercials on the music channels. YMMV.

i have no clue how much hd radio costs as an add on to hd-ready aftermarket units now, but i remember that filth was about $300 a few years ago.

id like the ticket in hd but unless i get a car with it equipped, im not sweating it.

Alpine has not shipped the new model 550 tuner yet but $200ish is what most of the add on tuners go for. I have it in two cars. I like it for what it is but 99% of the time, I'm listening to Sirius or XM.

any word on what XM and sirius plan on doing to their line ups with the merger?
im guessing they will do some form of the options below:

1. no changes, xm keeps xm channels, sirius keeps sirius channels, fees stay the same.
2. combine the best of each station, make programming same on both, make fees the same.

As long as I have XM's The System, I'm good. i need that to fall asleep at night!

I bought the same (or similar) JVC HU that EW has just recently for my DD Taurus SHO. It has a built in HD receiver and I bought a JVC iPod adapter for it as well. I think I paid under $140 for everything which IMO can't be beat. I probably wouldn't pay for the add on HD Radio for my Alpine W200 but I won't complain about getting it already built into an already cheap MP3 HU.

They will have many plans to choose from. Some may be as low as $6.99 and the highest I have seen estimated was $17.95. I have not seen a real list of what channels will be deleted/merged.

"READY" means additional parts must be purchased to add HD, XM, Sirus, etc.
The JVC KD-HDW10 has AM/FM/HD1/HD2/CD built in.
If reception is too poor to pick up HD, the tuner will switch to analog AM or analog FM and then back to HD when the signal improves. A few manufacturers offer HD Radio built into the deck (JVC & Dual for example). My add-on Alpine HD tuner sounds much better than my JVC built in HD tuner but the Alpine add on tuner costs more than the JVC deck costs.

The most common reason people are purchasing HD radio here at my shop is due to the AM reception issues, not much different for the FM. Get a few additional stations, however, for the price most people are getting SAT radio instead.

The most common reason people are purchasing HD radio here at Car Toys is due to the AM reception issues, not much different for the FM. Get a few additional stations, however, for the price most people are getting SAT radio instead.
The HD signal range is actually less than FM or AM. When you are on the edge of the HD coverage, the tuner will shift out of HD and back to FM or AM. When the AM channels power down at night, the HD signal is lost so the benefit of AM HD is lost as well. When in range of HD AM, there is no static and a much wider frequency range. I'm glad that 1310AM is broadcast on 99.5HD2 because it always sounds great day or night. 1310HD1, not so much.
