Has anyone actually replaced their garage door themselves? I might end up buying a used metal one to replace my falling wooden door and need to know what's involved with removing and reinstalling the spring(s). thanks.

That spring can kill you if not handled right. I'd pay someone a few bucks myself.

Pay the money for a new door and spring. I don't want to see you on a gurney on Fox News. ;)

thing I can't figure out is why people replace metal doors anyway. I've seen a few on Craigslist for sale. If it doesn't have any dented panels or rust...why would someone replace them....am I missing something on how garage doors can go bad? New doors are like $500.00 bucks installed where as I saw one for under 200 and one for 300.00 installed(missed that one though). I've always heard about the spring being dangerous, which is why I'm asking.

They can go bad. I've had them warp due to a bad spring.

I CAN DO IT IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO!
What kind of spring? Torsion or Extension?

$500 Bucks installed, damn thats cheap. Where are you finding prices like that, and what kind of door are they using?

I might be a little off on that price. I found some ads that come in those value pak mailers that we get in the mail. I'm not sure on the type of door or the gauge of the metal.

Call Diversified Door at 817-925-7415.
He replaced my single spring with a dual spring last year for about $100-125. I don't remember the exact price, but I remember it was a deal.
He also lubed the hinges, wheels, and checked the tension settings.

I did one myself with a helper and thought it wasn't too big of a deal.
