I would be up for doing that as long as we are going to truck the bikes up there.. get a hotel.. do a couple different ride routes while we are there then truck the bike back.
Slow.. you prob. don't remember but Me and Kevin Calder did that with the Turbo sand rail and his buggy. good times nice rides

well myself and a friend would be trucking our bikes to little rock or so then riding. I wouldnt mind pulling a trailer with several bikes, people would just have to ride share up there or something. I was thinking maybe leave a on friday or friday night and get up there.. spend the night the ride all day saturday.

hey I would be down t do this... let me know some dates and rates on hotels and all that jazz and we'll try to get a group to do this... (may want to check out weather patterns for what ever date for last year... doing this during a cool time would be awsome.. )

but honestly I'm cool with doing it in 100* temps if it means not being at home.. and getting to ride all weekend haha

One thing we will want to make sure of is that we have at least one chaser vehicle. just incase something breaks or someone needs water because they are too hot or anything like that...

Now I'm getting pumped.. lets do this!

Hey slow I might be interested in a ride like that. I have a truck too and can usually get a 16 ft trailer without a problem. If tied off right we could get several bikes on there.

I just remembered that my dad has an inclosed trailer.. I just text him to find out how big it is... that would be nice not to have to worry about the shit on the trailer getting stolen at night or weather or anything

2165 Turbo Rail

ok Dad said we can use his trailer. and he thinks that it is a 14ft by 6ft wide.. ( I was thinking it was longer then that ) he isn't 100% sure but he is probably right... so we could get a few bikes in there anyway.

anyone have a 4 door truck we can drive? (might be able to use dads avalanche, but that might be pushing it haha)

Mines a 98 dodge Quad. Not a full four door but you can fit six in it not too uncomfortablly. it is still more comfortable than riding my bike to Ak.

yea I have an ex-cab chevy but it would be pretty uncomfortable for more then 2 people.. and it gets about 14 on the highway.. NOT pulling a trailer with bikes in it haha

Early next month would be better for me, if I even have a bike by then, lol. I'm going to sell all my current junk, but should have something else by then.

I don't have a truck, but do have access to a 16' enclosed trailer with motorcycle chocks. It's no longer mine, but it's still registered to me through December, so we shouldn't have any trouble if we're stopped. I've pulled it loaded down with a half ton pick up, rover, and tahoe no problem.

Speaking of hotels, the trailer I'm talking about belongs to zosense now. He works in the hotel industry and can get deals on rooms. If he's interested that would help things out ;)

Ok it looks september 5-7th in september would work, I am liking the sound of the trailers, wheel chocks even better. This would make for a fun trip and lots of good pictures and lots of adrenaline.

How many people can go these dates? I have a 07 fullsize v8 truck with frame hitch and all, but single cab so good for towing but anymore than two people and it isnt comfortable @ all. I still dont mind being the tow truck though.. either way.

I know mark (ducati) is in
Sounds like chris (turborail) might be in
Who else.....
Jose?
OC with your couch?
Bottlerocket?
2000 Vert?
Hobbief3?

and all the others i missed.

I would have to say wait until the end of September or may even the first week of October. It's still going to be hot up there and would be more fun if it was a few degrees cooler. I made an Arkansas trip last year and it was the most fun I have ever had on a bike. We rode up and back instead of trucking the bikes up there. We spent 12 hours the first day riding up to Mountain Home. We hit what seemed like every twistie on the way up there. I was blown away the 2nd day with even more twisties. You should also plan to hit route 123, that was my favorite road up there if my memory serves me correctly.

My group and I will be heading up there the end of September and I can't wait!!! This ride is the reason I bought the 954RR.

08-13-2008, 01:11 PM
Just out of curiosity how many in your group are going end of september? Is this a group that rides the hell out of the twisties or what?

I have never been so this will be a first time experience..

Jose, Thanks for the offer on the straps. I have a canyon dancer for my bike but depending on how many people go as to what we might need.

Thoughts on bringing your girl, Mine will probably go and shop and stuff in little rock or hot springs.. But I am not riding twisties two up.

I'm up for when ever ... but the wedding is Oct 11th so i will be out doing wedding stuff from Sept 27th- Oct 15th

as far as weather goes, I looked it up and the weather in Mena, AR (not sure where you were planning) is in the high 80's aroudn that time last couple years...

For reference you can go here and select a location and date range and it will tell you the last few years weather

There would only be 4 of us going. I ride with a friend's Dad so these guys are in their early 50s. It's funny though b/c they all ride sport bikes and ride the hell out of the twisties. They get all the way over to the point that they literally have no chicken strips left on the tires. I couldn't believe it myself, but they really turn and burn up there. They aren't about top end runs, but they will push themselves and the bike as hard as they can through the twisties. It's funny to see 50 yr old guys get off of liter bikes at gas stations. The looks we get while we are up there are great!! :p

i am down for this for sept 5-7 or if everyone wants to wait til end of september that works, too. i just cant do it in august. i don't own a truck or trailer, but I am willing to pay some cash to whoever hauls me and my bike there. this should be a lot of fun, i didnt realize arkansas' roads were so damn twisty!

slowimport96
08-13-2008, 03:29 PM
I dont care when we go really, If we dont get more people for the weekend of the 5-7th then if you dont care we might just join your group of 4 on your ride if you all didnt care..

Mark I will haul you and your bike there.. I want to save my energy for riding the twisties there and not riding down the highway for hours..

SOOO whats the roll call FOR SURE for 5-7?

The 5-7 should be as good as any weekend in sept for me. I have not run it by the wife yet so that could change. i will talk too her tonight. I hope you guys do not mind letting me catch up if I do not push the twisties as hard as some. I am still not totally feeling it on this bike. i still have plenty of chicken strips on my tires.

Cool. I have over 4,000 miles on this bike but not much in the corners. Mainly straight on the interstate. My previous bikes where crusiers or dirt bikes so i am still a little unsure of how far I can lean it and push it in the curves. Good to know i might not be in the back by myself.

as far as "how far can i push it" farther then you will ever try to do on purpose haha

if you get into a corner too hot and get scared.. don't stand it up and run off the rd.. go ahead and try to lean more.. more thenlikely if you are following people and they made it around the turn at the same speed .. then you will make it too..
OF COURSE here is my disclaimer...
Ride your ride... another words just ride at a pace you are comfortable with :D

I would agree. I made some corners at speeds that i would not have even attemped on the Dublin run because the guys in front made it with no problem. I also went way wide on one that I should have backed down a little and it scared the shit out of me. Then I saw two guys go down on the same curve. So now i ask myself can i make that turn or are they just better riders.

well i wont push anything too hard either if im not familiar with the roads. and even if we do leave you a bit, im good about checking my mirrors and letting everyone catch up. as soon as paul was not behind me on the dublin ride, i knew something happened. well take it easy and still have fun so we all come home in one piece!

Are you all wanting to friday during work hours or just leave around 6-7pm or what?
How many people are going?
Do we for sure have access to a trailer?
We need a headcount soon for sure so we can plan vehicles and hotel rooms.
What if a day or two before we leave it is scheduled to rain? Still want to go or reschedule?

My truck bed is only good for maybe two, never tried more than mine. Dusty sorry to hear about your grandma man, but that is more important than a motorcycle ride.

Budget, Gas and hotel, food. Not sure.. If we all split the gas/hotel bill as much as we can it will help a lot.

Say 650 miles or so to little Rock and back.
$170 or so in fuel for truck hauling bikes

Fuel Riding $30

Fuel for car for people to ride in $130 or so

Hotel (dunno) If you and someone share a room (not a bed just a room then you could split that cost.. maybe 70 each and that is for two nights

I think you could get out for around 105 for gas in bike and gas getting there and back, plus say 70 for two days at hotel, maybe 200 for entire time including food.. Depends on how you eat i guess.

I was thinking just come back to hotel we started @, to much extra in fuel for trucks to be going around everywhere.. Not to mention there is 50 different roads to take back to the same place..lol

Yes I think drive up there friday night and hotel it then leave on bikes in the am. I am not sure about a chase truck. I was just going to ride and if we need it there is always a way to come back and get it..

So Friday night we could all meet somewhere, not sure where.. I-30 is the way to arkansas so perhaps somewhere in dallas or whatever. Mark lives pretty close to me so maybe he knows of a place by him.. he is close enough to I-30..

No worries, I dont take much personal.. not to mention what would I have thought you were stepping on my toes about? lol

Do you know if the trailer has an e-track system or anything to hook too. Is the floor wood or metal. I am not sure how to secure multiple bikes in an open trailor. Also I know how most people feel about drilling holes and attaching shit to their trailors. Just curious what we have to work with.

Does that mean we would have someone drive the trucks to the end point and stay the night in a new hotel or do you plan on riding back.

Well what do you think one way is only 155miles once we get to clinton, and from little rock that is 70 miles, so that would be a total of 225 miles each way or we could stay in Conway,AR and that would make it about 190 miles each way.

We can do whatever.. any suggestions?
Roundtrip of that route is 390 roughly, that is if we stay in Conway, AR

400 miles is a lot of riding for one day. not saying I can not do it but it is a lot. I do not care about saying in another hotel I just do not know many trucks we will have and if we will have drivers? Chris how many miles are you wanting to get in this is you trip. I am ok for whatever.

how about we do this...
Stay in the middle.. Saturday ride east then turn around and come back to the hotel.. Sunday drive West then turn around and come back to the hotel

stay around the B... so its about the middle would be about 160 miles round trip each day

thoughts?

Do you know if the trailer has an e-track system or anything to hook too. Is the floor wood or metal. I am not sure how to secure multiple bikes in an open trailor. Also I know how most people feel about drilling holes and attaching shit to their trailors. Just curious what we have to work with.

I just called Dad. I don't remember an e trac system but he said it does have word flooring and we can mount wheel chocks or tie downs or what ever we want. (as long as I do it right and it looks ok)

He also said we can use the avalache so more of us can ride up there together since its a 4 door.

Sounds like my girl is probably not going to go so I could take 3 people comfortably and 4 if someone doesn't mind riding bitch in back

hey chris I just plotted out the round trip on My streets and trips and it is only 290miles. that is starting in conway and ending in conway. We could start somewhere in the middle maybe russleville or london to break up the hwy 40 riding ride half on the way out and half on the way in. I think the round trip at 290 would be fine.

Guys, not sure who all has hit those roads before. But be careful. I have ridden some up there and trust me on this............. if sign says take a corner at 15, 25 or whatever mph I would highly suggest doing so. Especially if you have never been on it before. Just a warning because at one point or another we have all got a little froggy and did something we " thought " we could do and regreted it. Some of those corners are SHARP!! Just a heads up. ;)

so any ideas/suggestions of where to stay?

It looks like Russelville has serveral hotels. I found a motel6, holiday inn, best western, super 8, hampton Inn, Etc. All right off I-40 and 7. Would be right in the middle of the route that chris posted for the round trip.

ok it looks like:

Best Value Inn is $62.15 per night including tax, This is for a room with two beds.

Hampton Inn is $94 per night not including tax. This is for a room with two beds.

Roundtrip should be around 700 miles or so, depending on start/end locations etc.

Fuel for the two trucks that are going
700 miles (Roundtrip) x 16-18 mpg = 40+ gallons of fuel @ 3.90 average = $155.00-$170.00 per truck

I know that in my truck I will be hauling my motorcycle along with Marks motorcycle.

Chris (Turborail) are you still taking a trailer or we just going to put the other bikes in the bike of another truck or what?

I will take my truck if needed. If we have 5 bikes we will need a trailer or three trucks. I have no way of securing my bike in a trailer, could be a problem. I use the front of the bed for wheel stop not sure if that is possible in trailer. I am with mark it will depend on who all is going and what we have to work with.

Exactly why I brought this up, I was looking at the weather and was thinking it didn't look good and that's just to far of a drive to chance the weather.
