Just finished my little project on the '06 GSXR 600.... I wanted it to be louder, but wasn't really crazy about spending some serious cheese on an aftermarket exhaust. I really like the look of the stocker and how small it is, etc. SOOO, I bought another one off of Ebay (stocker) for $32 delivered! haha. I took it to work and split open the cat, gutted it, and had a guy TIG it back together for me. Shot it with some high temp flat black paint like the stock one and put it all back on. I think it sounds good. It's not REAL loud, but it has a raspier sound and still looks stock. I'd take a pic, but it looks exactly the same! haha. I think it definitely sounds meaner and was $32. :)

Should have done some before and after sound clips. Oh well... to late now :)

I've never really been able to tell much from sound clips vs. reality. I can definitely tell it's louder and it's definitely more quiet than the straight pipe was! Hahaha. I couldn't resist firing it up for a second w/ the muffler completely off. :)

Just to clarify, the muffler assembly on my bike consists of a cat and a small muffler. The part I gutted was the Cat. I left the muffler alone. Here's a pic of what it looks like:

[QUOTE=stunter bob]How did you gut itQUOTE]

I'd assume this is the same on motorcycles, but a torch and long blade screwdriver work wonders. I've done it on several cars, but never on a bike. The cat is just a porcelain grid.

It was a little more complicated than that Brent. I had to split the case on the weld shown in the pic. It had a lot of internal welds, baffles, tubes, etc that held it all together. Once I got all that out, I cleaned it all back up and had it welded back together. You wouldn't know looking at it that it wasn't stock. BUT it did require actually cutting it open and spending a couple of hours just gutting it w/ a grinder/cutting wheel.

Just guessing but I'd bet it's at least 10lbs lighter.

I wish mine was a bit louder ..

I have a full M4 system and it is louder than stock but not as loud as I was hoping for ..

I rode it to work today and I'd have to say it's pretty loud. Not HORRIBLE, but probably louder than my full M4 I had on my last ZX6R.
