View Full Version : Opinions on windscreen

I recently ordered a small windscreen for the 919, and it is a dark tinted color. My bodyshop buddy suggested I paint it the color of the bike, a la ZRX1200 syle. It is too small to actually see through anyway, so from that aspect, it wouldn't matter. Any opinions on this? I'm leaning towards doing it.

I wouldnt because I have seen several bikes with them painted and to me it just looks almost as bad as a painted or colored chain.. not a big fan of either.
With that being said some people love it, one of those personal preference things..

I've leave it tinted myself. Never was a fan of the "colored" wind screens.

You know you liked the DVD player on the last ride, especially the one molded into the hump so those behind could watch.... :D

Vertnut, I ride a black rex. Its little bikini fairing is black, with a lightly tinted screen.
Are you thinking of painting the entire shield solid to match your bike, or just a portion ala the rex? Color me confoosed...
BTW, I see your texts regarding the zrx and can confirm what a great all-around bike it is, much like I'm sure your 919 is. I've had it now for 6 years and put 20k on it, and am constantly considering new bikes - but have yet to find anything that appeals to me in the way the zrx does - comfortable, versatile and capable.
Good luck w/ your project and ride safe.

The ZRX is a great bike. It will be difficult for you to "justify" buying something new in a naked bike. The one thing you would really notice, is the weight difference with the newer bikes. Along with that comes the nimble handling and really short stopping distances. Your ZRX has no lack of power, so you would not notice that at all, though the power delivery is very smooth and linear with mine.
I was going to paint the entire windscreen. It's not very big (about the size on your bike), and it's only really effective if I'm in a tuck. I also ordered a 17-tooth primary gear, which I'll install shortly. It will replace a 16 tooth from the factory. It will serve a few purposes: correct a speedo error inherant with these bikes, and make her "relax" a little more on the longer trips. My youngest daughter will be back at UT in a week, and I plan on "flying" down there occasionally. ;)
*edit* I fell in love with the "Eddie Lawson" edition back in the early '80's, so the ZRX has a soft spot in my heart.
