they're going in my office...any good deals or ones to specifically look for? for some reason, my laptop won't work on my samsung at home (40" lcd, 1080p, 120hz) but it will work fine on the 32" lcd in my exercise room, so i want to make sure and get one that will actually work!:o
thanks,
brad

A couple? Geez I run two 19" for my desktop... I'd be happy with just a 32"
And the most likely reason that I can come up with as to why your lap top won't work on our 40" Is because of the refresh rate, It's likely to high.. 60 - 75 for monitors are about normal but try Newegg.com They seem to have some good deals and cheap shipping

Get a pair of Westinghouse 42"s
thats what I purchase last year and they have been great, plus you get 6 HDMI ports.

Must be rough.
i have to look at blueprints on the computer, and it's tough doing it on this little 12.1" (or whatever it is) laptop screen. i'd like to get something that i could look at a full set of blue prints on the screen without having to move around constantly. 40" is an absolute minimum. it's actually a cost savings, too...it keeps me from having to purchase a plotter, paper, ink, and maintain it.

Check your tv manual and see what resolutions it support through VGA. I bet your laptop is outputting something that it can't accept. I think my samsung 1080p won't accept 1280x1024 which is what my laptop defaults to so I have to change it everytime.

if you are only using it for a monitor and not for watching TV/movies I would just get a Vizio or Westinghouse. You really aren't going to see a big enough difference between those brands and a samsung if a computer is your only input.
Lots of deals for Vizios and Westys show up on slickdeals all the time and a lot of people have posted up saying they just use it for a computer monitor and it works great.
Also, check and make sure that your laptop can output 1920x1080 before you go wasting the money on a 1080p tv when you could have saved the cash and got a 720p instead.
edit...
Also, I'd check reviews and make sure the tv you get can do 1:1 pixel mapping. I think pretty much all LCDs do. What that means is normal broadcast tv has all the extra info and crap around the edges that your tv normally just crops off so that it's outside the TV frame and you don't see it.
So if it can't do 1:1 pixel mapping that means it's going to stretch the edges of your screen outside the display, which means when you move your mouse all the way to the edge it will disappear and you will be missing some of the picture. I think most LCDs do 1:1 when the input is coming through VGA but just something to double check.

the resolution was the problem and i can't find a single setting on my laptop that will work on it.

Check your manual. I think mine supports something dumb like 800x600 and I have to drop down to that and then change it to 1920x1080. Also, you can set your laptop to output to both it's screen and the tv and change it.
to do this right click on the background > properties > settings. it should show two boxes with a 1 and 2. Click identify so you can figure out which number your monitor is (usually 1). Then go to the tv number (2) and change the resolution for just the TV, you may have to check the box that says 'extend my windows desktop...' the click apply and see if that works. if it does you can then click back on 2 (tv) and click use this device as my primary monitor. then click back on 1 (laptop) and uncheck extend my windows desktop.
hope that helps.

I've got a Vizio 42" and love it! I'd recommend it highly, considering there about $800 total...it's not a bad deal.

Brad, take your laptop with you to Walmart, or Circuit City, take a video cable, and a DVI/VGA adapter too.
Then go try them all out :)

that's exactly what i was planning on doing, but i'm not sure how they would respond. i found a nice 720p/1080i 42" at office depot for $749 and i'm going to try it out at the store before i buy 'em. it's an olevia, btw...are those any good?
