View Full Version : Guess: What was the MPH on this pass? 1/8th mile...

White is throttle position, green is rpm, the other is boost pressure. The car leaves where the cursor is....

What do you think? 33 x 10.5W tire, 4.11 rear gear, powerglide.

How can rpms go up if throttle position goes down?

Mechanical inertia and loose converter?

Mechanical inertia and loose converter?
I looked again after posting it. But correct me if im wrong this is the first time to ever see a data log graph.. everytime TP goes down that means you lifted correct?

Would be faster if you were at full throttle through the traps :D. Id say 156 but the way the graph shows you werent at full throttle(off by a cunt hair on the graph) so I am not quite sure. Was that at redline? Looks alot like the TXR graphs down track in the left lane :p

well 8000rpm with a 33 in tall tire, 4.11 gears, and 1:1 ratio in the transmission it would be 191 mph in a manual transmission car. But given the slipage in the converter I would have to say that its *<191mph :D

Sure don't. Saving my pennies for a racepak, but for now all I have is the FAST logger. I would love to be able to monitor DS speed, lateral G, acceleration, exhaust backpressure, fuel pressure, etc. but it's out of the budget for the moment. Somehow I think I'd be able to optimize my combo a bit more if I had one. Well that, and didn't have a leaking rear brake caliper....

Any suggestions on loggers? Is the RPM piece comparable to racepak?

I bought one of the RPM's from Wolfe. It cost around 2400. So far, I'm logging:
DS
RPM
boost at manifold
pressure at gate
FP
oil pressure
g-meter
all 8 EGT's

Anytime you want to check it out, let me know. It alot cheaper than the Racepak and seems to have a good reputation.

It made 7.4 psi @ 4450 rpm at launch and significantly more than that downtrack. It averaged 29 psi on that last throttle stab.

I'd like to check it out! The racepak seems to have a bit of an advantage in terms of slickness of user interface and the ultradash. The other thing they have is (I'm assuming here) a digital interface back to the main box, thus maximum noise suppresion and signal to noise ratio. Am I correct that the RPM box converts all of the analog voltages to digital back at the box? Do you see any issues with crosstalk and noise on your signals?

does it not say Kpa 152 for map? where is the 7.4 at?

edit: ok i see the psi down at the bottom now. what is the map in kPa?

It does. MAP is absolute pressure as opposed to gauge pressure. On a good day, ambient pressure is around 100kPa, and boost is anything above that... thus, I would be making around 50 kPa of boost at launch, or 7ish psi. MAP on the last throttle stab is around 300 kPa.

If it's the first pass it was 152 and some change, if it's the last pass it was 149.

I haven't had a chance to datalog anything with it. I'm on crutches for the next 6 weeks, so it may be a while...lol

Essentially SOTP. Honestly I haven't gotten a good hit with the 114, every time it's spooled (6 passes, 2 at the beginning of the year and 4 2 weeks ago) it's gone left hard off the line. Found a leaking rear brake caliper last weekend, that might have contributed (drip, drip, drip while trying to footbrake the car into the lights) or the ancient set of tires I had on the car might have done the same.... I broke out the plumbbob and the suspension is square front to back on both sides to within 1/32" so I think that's ok.... I put a new (to me) set of 4 hit tires on the car, I'm going to try that in addition to a new brake caliper. I'm also going to reset the antiroll bar in case it got tweaked a bit and introduced some preload. Hopefully it will go straight. The next step after getting a clean hit will be to tighten up the converter. At 155 mph I had been seeing the shift light for a second or so through the traps.

That's damn impressive you've gone as fast as you have! Buy one of the basic RPM loggers for 500 and get it on there. You'd be suprised what you can learn just from DS speed.

I've installed both the Racepak and the RPM Perf. data loggers in about a dozen cars. They both work well, and give the same data. Just depends how much $$$ you want to spend.

You already know my opinion, but I don't have any experience with the RPM unit. I do know that on all the cars I've used the Racepak on, the only failures I've seen, were because of user error...
