person or company? Our fridge/freezer took a dive over the weekend. Its only a year and a half old.... 6 mos out of warranty. Go figure. I have never had a problem with an appliance before and have no clue who to call/trust.

Not for residential. I can tell you where to get parts, but you'd have to do the repairs yourself.

We used contractors for awhile and our freezer kept crapping out. We called Sears and they sent someone who fixed it right up.

I called Sears before and they offered a $500 one-year plan. For $500, they'll fix anything up to some amount. They said a compressor problem would typically cost around $400 for parts alone.
Their's a small family owned appliance repair store just south of Rock Island on the west side of story road...might be worth a shot.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Of the last 10 houses I've built (about a year), a third of the appliances have had some kind of issue. I've used Jenn-Air and Frigidaire Professional series stuff, and it's all pretty much bad.

It's pathetic. I'm not using cheap shit, either.

Oh, I know. Anymore, there really isn't much difference between a cheap $700 range, and a $3000+ Viking range.
And it cracks me the fuck up, that people believe that Viking is commercial grade shit. That shit wouldn't last a fucking week in a full production restaurant.

That's the truth. I've used a little Viking, and though it looks impressive to me or a typical homeowner, it's about the same shit as the rest of it. So many people are into the visual appeal of something and not the substance.

Holy fuck.
So, just for the hell of it, I googled Viking to see what prices are like, with stainless costs going ape shit.

My comparable model, that actually IS commercial grade, is roughly half the price, and outperforms Viking any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
Just goes to show, there's a plethora of people out there, with more money than sense.

SubZero is better, but folks really fall for the aesthetics more than anything. My appliance folks are really touting the new ElectroLux line, but they are just the mother-company to so many of these that are shit. We'll see...

I've heard Subzero is still great, but quality has suffered slightly in recent years. Raw material cost is fucking everyone, so they are using cheaper components. This holds true with ANYHTING that is manufactured these days. TVs, a/c units, etc. There's a reason a water heater or an a/c won't last 15-20 years anymore. ;)
Viking is ok. Nothing more, nothing less. They use cheap components, just like GE, Amana, etc.
But, no way in hell I'd pay $12k for a fucking Viking range (see the link I posted  ), EVER. Especially not for what it is.
The bone I have to pick with them, is their marketing. They've always advertised/marketed themselves as commercial. This must have just recently happened, but now they are marketing themselves as 'commercial - type'. I'd assume someone sued, or threatened suit for false advertising. :D
I've been in the business for going on 7 years now. I've been in thousands, upon thousands of restaurants, nationwide. I've NEVER seen Viking in any restaurants.

I compete against Electrolux, in the commercial end. They aren't the best out there, but they aren't slouches, either. They just don't have the name the my line has in the States. But that's mainly because they are a European company. It's a hurdle all the European companies have to get over, when they are new to the States.
FWIW, I really like the aesthetics and functionality of what I've seen on Electrolux's new residential line. I had to stop in to check them out, after I started seeing the commercials.
But like Randy said, we'll see. They haven't really been around long enough yet.

You could go with a true commercial range, for less than half the price. And that's just for a restaurant series. You could even go heavy duty (built like a fucking tank, higher BTU, etc), with convection ovens as opposed to standard, and still get out for just a hair over half the price of that Viking.

I was laughing to myself yesterday while I was going OCD in the kitchen. When we were fixing it up, we decided to keep the original stove top and double oven since it sort of "blended" in with the new counters and the cabinets. They are from 1959 and work and look as if brand new. Even the chrome on the knobs which always flakes off on old appliances in perfect. I was cleaning to hood and was actually thinking how cool it was! Ironic, the fridge and the original stove/ovens are both GE.
Fridge, stove, oven (and Hood Vent Cat)
